Been a while since I posted anything here so i thought it about time I did, I\'ve been working on this on and off for a while now and it is still no nearer completion :( but with every Gondorian warrior painted it is one less to do.

ForGondorWIP2.jpg

I\'m trying to get a convincing but not too overcrowded look to this viginnette.

Anyway some great stuff going on here TAB the bust is beautiful, Joshua nice to see you around again and the back of your prowler looks ace.
Primeval I\'m liking it, Sanjay if you don\'t come away with a Demon there is no justice. Everyone else great work all round.

@ Tracy, fantastic face and overall model, be sure to post a link when you submit it.

@ Tim great work, how many men of gondor will you have when it\'s finished, i bet your sick of painting them already (i once painted 48 in one fell swoop, i never want to see another again) :D

Here is my latest work (having not actually finished anything in about 3 months!) a GW Ogre Tyrant that was originally ment for my Ogre army but now im painting him up for fun.

I still have a lot to do, but i should have the botton half finished for tomorrow. But do you want to know why this Ogre isn\'t a threat to other miniatures? Because hes \'armless! lol

..............i\'ll get my coat.

Better pics this time :) The armour metallics are as good as finished. The sword still needs to be done, same for the horns and all the black stuff ;)

my update...

Here are a few more shots...doing base coats for the main body and underbelly now. stone work pretty much done but gotta change some hilites, and add light sourcing to the entire thing but that last.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2121158966&idx=1

http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2121158966&idx=2

http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2121158966&idx=3

(i locked myself out of photobucket and have to wait for my login to be accepted after some time)...

Anyways, gonna base coat it. in the 2nd shot, you can see where i am *trying* to blend the brown to the green. my error in that the leg should be above the thick skin line, but is lower, so it would havehad to be brown which i did not want.

Anyway you can think of on how to blend the stomach to make it better? I spent a few hours trying to move it towards beige right below where thte green is now (so underbelly, wouldbe darker, then getting lighter as it reached the sides) but never worked :(

Anyways, the body will be green, with lighter/brighter greens on it (hopefully blended but maybe not) with hilights in scorpion green and yellow.

Scales will be base coated yellow, and then hightlited to white...with wash of black for the depth.

OSL will be done in the colour of the plasma ball, so pinkish/blue basically.

still ahve tons of stuff to add to it and base..don\'t even get me started on that *sigh*

It seems like my progress is slow...and it is...but i figure, since i will be meeting some of you there in the UK, I would like to explain, espec since so many have provided so much support, kind words, and suggestions to me.

I wanted to go to GD UK, but I then decided i would sell my ticket, and not go, since not ready yet...skills aren\'t up to par yet.

However, something has happened... in april, my dad gave my pic to a lady at the pool he swims at, who sent to her sister in london, who gave to their daughter. She contacted me in june and let\'s just say, 1 or 2 hour calls/day to london, my phone bills are killing me now. I am totally fallen for her, but i am hoping she falls for me (it may just be a crush to her)... will find out in england. I told myself so that i don\'t get hurt, that i\'m going for the competition...but obviously i\'m not. couldn\'t care less about if i do well or not at the GD. I wantto do well really, but...i don\'t expect it and for past few weeks..i can\'t think of antyhing else (but her!)..(sad as taht sounds :( :( )

Anyways...can\'t wait to meet all of you guys there the saturday/sunday :D

(hoping things go well with the girl!!! and that I can finish this model with all the...uhm..distraction in my mind right now).

THanks for all thehelp guys and support :D

A very grateful Sanjay *hugs* :)

quick update

Hmm...i got an area that kinda looks nice...blending from the brown to green..not great. will post shots of that area speficially once all basecoating is done and i start the specific blends some time around 5 or 6 am this morning or tomorrow evening.

Simple answer to your problem, don\'t blend it. If you look at real lizards they have quite abrupt colour changes. I would just feather the edges of the two colours together so its not a line, but leave the transition quite quick.

As for your skin types being in the wrong place, again I would paint the colours where you thought they should be, not where the texture is. Don\'t worry that you didn\'t put the texture in the right place, let the colours do the work, it will look better if you do this rather than take the colours to places they weren\'t meant to be. Trust me :)

Hmmm

Just added a few glazes i guess to it (not quite a wash, but no glue mixed into the paint/water)... I think it\'s not really blended...it\'s more mixed than pure transition but not as smooth as the blends u c around this site...

I think it makes it look kinda interesting, as if the skin is having issues at that point...but will take pics later.

Gonna basecoat the scales...

Sanjay

Ok..so the main body was basecoated green with a wash of ivy green (Darker swampy looking green). Still have to put lighter coats of paint in the main muscle areas, etc and then try and blend it in, along with a general glaze (not sure to use yellow or not and mixed with glue like GW site suggests).

the head looks dark i know...the leg joint area....that\'s how it looks so far..a few more glazes/washes i thought it may look ok.

Oh, the scales....the scales were coated with a desert yellow...then drybrushed/wet brushed with some vallejo military yellow (dull, not bright) ..next will be paint (individually 1 at a time) sunburst yellow onto the scales...then hilite with bleached bone and white. then wash black, then reapply just the black washes.

Oh...tonite, broke a claw...glued it back...dipped my brush into the glue (i wasn\'t paying attention..totally out of it)
it\'s dead now..all i can use it for is rough drybrushing (which ruins brushes anywyas)

it was a W&N size 2 brush..nice one..no series 7, but another nice one wiht blue handle :(
so may get a new one tomorrow.

I think i will get some sleep now...4:30 am. Past few dyas going to bed around 6 to 7 am.

Edit - I will be redoing all the horns sometime this weekend. Also, I will start tomorrow doing test bases. As i have stated before...i need to hide flaws in the legs, so I will be using realistic water (woodland scenics) and photoetched leafwork (along with real twigs etc) to hide whatever I can...and to make it appear the dino is walking out of a swamp in the deep jungles. gotta see if i can make a swamp base now...i have to put dino in last, since feet wil be locked in via woodland scenics.
Then want vines, rocks, bones etc all over . *well, bones will be in the water/on beach)

Regards,

Sanjay

so...

what do people suggest for the skin?

I\'m not sure how I should highlight or try to blend on something so large...or if I should even bother....

Any suggestions...still not surehow to deal with underbelly either :(

Green Stuff- i couldn\'t remember anyone else\'s name in this thread but yours is easy :)

Everyone - thanks RE: the girl...(u guys have no idea how scared I am right now that she won\'t be interested in me :( :( )

Everyone part 2 - any suggestions for dino? I am going to try my hardest to get it ready for GD :)

sanjay...

Not only is your vision becoming clearer, with incredible results, but your preserverance is something to envy!

I\'d have quit and started (and quit) 14 other projects in the time you\'ve devoted.

Well done!!
