Works In Progress II

green stuff

@Sanjay : no worry ... but I will look out for comets and wild dice at Birmingham :p. For your dinosaur, maybe a wash of dark angel green could give more depth to the green part. But it\'s only an idea, the camera and my PC screen could have me off :p.

Sanjay: Well, from the way I see the skin, it is very bright, but that may also be the light. Maybe a wash, as greenstuff suggested...
So, on your basing part,is it coming out or going into the swamp?
(Good luck with the girl!)

Also, I am having trouble with metallics, they are too...metallicy, and glossy...suggestions...anyone?

@Hakkai.. Simple way to remove the glossiness, black paint wash. Watered down ALOT. Once it dries you\'re left with a nice matte (ish) metalic. If it\'s still too glossy just repeat the process. Oh, if you want to make the metal look older, don\'t add as much water to the wash. Hope this helps.

out...

the base wil have apoxysculpt to make the mud. then i wil push dino intoit to make foot prints. hind feet will be, one in the mud, one on a rock/wood, with tons of plants since the hind feet are messed up so gotta hide the errors.

The front feet will be on \'beach\' so it will be leaning up a bit, as if the dino waded out of the water, and stopped to lean low and roar.

I will use woodland scenics realistic water but gotta test it out here to see how adding ink/paint makes it darker. found swamp tutorial. will make water dark to hide the hind feet as much as possible.

Also seeing if i can put stuff to simulate the stuff in a swamp, hanging from horns, etc..again only in spots to hide stuff, not to cover entire model...

I *may* try and use super glue to simulate swamp water dripping from horns....but not sure how to do all that. don\'t got much time..2 weeks..and gotta get body done in a couple days, so i can redo horns, etc.

with talking to that girl for like 3 or 4 hours/day...and trying to work out since body feels like crap generally..i\'m just a wreck...hehe

THnaks :)

Grey Knight looks great. What is stuck in the water though.

Sanjay......I meant it when I said this project of yours should be a movie.
Dont use superglue for the drips.Get some 2 part clear epoxy glue and use that.
Use darker washes on the dino to create more depth.

uhm...some help here...

so I know I gotta spend all my time on my Engine...however, I need some other help too (well, i need miracles right about now in my life but anyways :D )

For uhm..that girl in england, i wanted to give a nicer gift than just buying some crap in the store.

I am buying chocolates she likes BUT also thought i\'d paint up something for her. I\'ve given friends painted stuff as presents for past year and they all loved them.

She likes lions, so I got the reaper lions.

Wondering, how do you guys think I could get a colour such as this:

http://coolminiornot.com/index/m/Reaper/id/87810

I messaged him but no response....

I will do the lions after i finish the engine though, so sometime in 2 weeks (prob day before flight to england OR at worst, I will bring tools with me and paint in england!!!) hehe

Thanks :)

@Sanjay
Perhaps you could use VMC Ochre Brown and VMC Ochre Yellow? Then use some light beige for the brighter highlights.

Klute

@Sanjay......I would probably use something like snakebite leather highlighted to bleached bone for the main coat for the lions.Bleached bone to white for the belly.

Finally!

OK, tried to use Klute\'s \'Skin\' tutorial and, no offense to Klute who did a wonderful Skin tutorial, but my skin came out crappy! I thought I had it thinned appropriately (Grumb seemed to think it was o.k.), but it still ran and didn\'t go on evenly.

So, help me out - how do I fix this, or can it even be fixed?

*Disclaimer - Grumb says he\'s never used that method before and can\'t help :D (Bugger him! He keeps mumbling \"stripper would work\" under his breath...)*

hey...

ok..for the skin, i think the best way is if you want that tint of the skin, then just reapply the layers after.

So via Klute\'s tutorial, thin the colour you used a bit and mix with the next paint, lighter or white/bleached bone to get it lighter, and as per klute, apply almost everywhere, but leave a bit showing. then keep doing this as it gets lighter, and every now and then, a light wash of the color slightly darker to help unify the edges a bit.

not sure..my barbarian came out as my best small character figure, but haven\'t put shots ofhim up...not as good as others of course, but better than my previous characters :)

@Dawn...it sounds like you are putting too much mix on at a time.Unload your brush a bit more so the paint doesnt \"run\".

Belakor\'s head on a spike...It has a few shades of red on a black coat, with a black wash, but I need to add some highlites...i was thinking a very bright red, and then maybe a faint grey or white on some of the tips?

GAH, thehead looks bad..so flat..there was more depth to it..honest...need to add some darker greens to it I think to give a bit of depth again.

DSC02308.jpg

an ancient lizardmen column for the base..made same way i did rest of my stone work. Going to use brown stuff to make vines around it since I can\'t find fake aquariam plants that have jungle type vines :( :( :( Notsure where to get jungle plants from..fake ones I mean. Aquarium stuff doesn\'t look good enuff :( Have some photoetched leaves here, from an army modeller store. (red lancers)

DSC02307.jpg

That will be the swamp base...however, my 2 tests of woodland scenics water did not work out as planned. i they seaped thru the stuff holding it on the base...so what I will test tonite is water effects to sculpt a very thing wall. let that harden, THEN add realistic water. If the wall is thin enuff, it won\'t show as white (water effects appears white if it\'s too thick ...i made that mistake with my black dragon in gallery..hence all the sand on the base :p )

The 2 sections of the base with no apoxysculpt on it...the one on the right (Front) will be the battery compartment, and the rear one will be the circuit board (inside apoxysculpt rock to hide it)..the wires we hope can survive having realistic water poured over them...

Any suggestions...other than redoing it cause it looks like crap :D since no time for that :(

BTW, my cell phone bill came in at a new high...$241 !!! not including my home phone bill via a special long distance plan (another $120 or so!!!) :(

Thanks :)

Man do I hate the dry-brushed look! It looks great but I really hate the dry brushed look. This is a big model you actuly have the space to blend; USE IT!

StarFyre

Active member
:(

i try to blend the green on the skin...the scales and stone are dry brushed...i can\'t really blend and i have no time to practice as i do it (i did on the skin though but now, with other stuff i gotta get ready for england..i have no time).

I know i don\'t have a chance in hell, so I may not actually bring the model anymore :(

Dude, if that was my work you couldn\'t pay me not to take it! i\'ll bet you get a TON of attention and AT LEAST up on their website with the bad boy. Don\'t let one person ruin so much of your hard work man.

Here is my latest mini. I have a few touchups left to do as well as flock the base with a bit of grass and tidy up the base. Aragorn is going to be a gift for a friend whose mother is dying of pancreatic cancer and is not long for this world. I have a bit of time yet, and so I am looking for critiques, no matter how picky--I want this to be my best effort. Thank you!
