Very sharp and well-focused picture!

As for me, I am actually considering something SLR-ish, because I want it not only for miniatures but other stuff too.

Yes an SLR would be nice, but it was out of my price range and my actual needs..I just needed a good camera to take pictures of my sculpting work to mail to clients and to take pictures of minis. Once you get a new camera Id be curious to hear why you chose what you did. Good luck and welcome to your +1000 posts:D

Thanks for comments!

Orb, DFD, thank you for advise! I think I\'ll actually get one of the Canon ones. Right now I have Canon, and I think it\'s pretty good for its class, and hopefully so will be the more high-end cameras. I\'ll let you know when I get one!

Canon EOS 350D without a doubt. With that 50mm compact macro.

A 20D if, like Orby, You\'re a spawny get and can afford one! TBH it\'s unecessary unless you want to smash the thing about, then the mag-alloy body comes into play.

I got the 50mm compact macro lens yesterday. Haven\'t tested it on minis yet but I\'ll be sure to let you know how it goes. Certainly looks crisper than the lens included in the camera package.

I was looking at a 50mm compact lens from Sigma with Canon fitting. (Sigma EX 50/2,8 DG Macro) Do you know how it compares to the 50mm Canon (Canon EF 50/2,5 Macro)? Comparing the specification I\'d choose the Sigma.

Hi Sven

Good question - obviously having bought the canon I\'d say get the canon!!

But;
the canon lens goes to f2.5 vs sigma f2.8.
sigma is 1:1 canon only 1:2 (however, I thing a 28mm mini can be photographed to be aprrox 1 metre tall with the canon!!!
Cost close, from what I see.

some searching on the net;
sigma macro on F&M
canon macro on F&M

this is the only one with photo comparisons:
someone\'s blog
and from the pics, the canon is crisper

everyone has opinions! seems that many believe that sigma\'s build quality isn\'t up to canon\'s but is getting better. A lens built for many cameras (sigma/canon sigma nikon etc) may perform worse than a lens built for a specific camera range (canon/canon).
It\'s a minefield\"

Good points! :) However I\'m not sure about the test images. They used f2.8 which isn\'t optimal for anyone of those lenses. But I think the Canon might be a better pick anyway, as you\'ve mentioned, generally lenses works better for their designated brand, and canon have a good reputation. I do think both lenses might be a good pick for the money anyway.

well just tried the new lens and

:eek:

cheers Spacemunkie! money well spent! it is gobsmacking...........crisp and wonderful colour representation too.

.....however, I won\'t post pictures yet....time for bed, then Christmas is upon us - beers tomorrow, then family comes to stay....next week I\'ll use the new photography forum with a vengence.

all i can say is SLR photography is different to compact style; and the lens makes all the difference

Well, i think the skin is not on par with the rest of the mini. I like the other parts, lovely blues.

Can i ask, is there any free photo editing program so i could make that blue/white backround for my mini? I tried GIMP but it is quite bad for that kind of use. Thanks.
