It\'s not just about the contest, it\'s about the show. Lots of people come there to look at the best miniature art in the world, so it\'s nice to have pieces like that in there. And, since the contest is using the open judging system it\'s not like he\'s taking away the chance for other people to win anything. The more great minis on display, the better! :)

Firstly, I don\'t feel that makes much sense. Ritual\'s post is successful in explaining the use of \"touring\" minis.

Additionally, it was a seperate show! So what if it won awards previously at a GW contest, this is about every kind of mini being contested against the other, no matter which company created it (or the backstory, as the Slayer was a scratchbuild).

I understand totally what you are saying, especially on the socialising side. It\'s just always been a hate of mine that\'s all. But who am i in the mini world, a nobody, some would say thank god:innocent:

Atacam, I understand where you are coming from on this and I think Ritual has hit the button in his explanation :D

I agree with you where comps like GD and Salute which operate on a first past the post basis i.e only 1 gold, silver and bronze per category is given then it also gets up my nose when you see a mini that has one in other shows vetting for a place.

However with a lost of the Historic shows regardless of whether they have a fantasy section and also operate the open system of judging then it doesn\'t really matter because more awards are handed out for those that deserve them and unlike a GD where you may only have 1 or 2 judges in an open comp especially where lots of entries are involved then you are looking at upwards of 10 judges looking at a figure so it is a lot fairer as they all judge on the same criteria and the head judge has a final say in the matter.

Edit: And as was pointed out iearlier in this or another thread on the Expo theme a Slayer Sword winner only managed a silver at the Expo :D

@Wargriffon - MULTIPLE European sword winners took silver, I don\'t believe that any actually won a gold!! This included Nano\'s 54mm High Elf swordsman, Albert\'s GD UK Orc, and the Dwarf Slayer!

It would be nice if people had the chance to make new stuff for every contest they enter, but that may not always be possible. And it is always nice to see older stuff too that you may not have seen in the flesh before, like David Waeselynck\'s dwarf slayer that I\'ve only seen on pictures. I also happened to stand next to him when I entered my minis, so I got to have a look at it really close up without a sheet of glass inbetween.

For the record, he also had a new mini (or at least one I hadn\'t seen before) which was a tormented looking monster bust. There\'s a pic of it on Jérémie\'s site, but you can\'t link directly to the pics on it. A really nice piece!

I can appreciate the point Luke, but I have to say I was really grateful people bought stuff that had been used in other competitions. It gave me and many others the chance to see some of the very best from that last couple of years, and it made the show probably the best display of figures I\'ll ever see until I get to another expo.

I agree there .. didn\'t go but seeing other winning pieces would be a great thing in my eyes... same with when companies take the studio work it\'s always nice seeing stuff in the flesh..

A show like the Expo or any of the large Historical Exhibitions are not really a contest like a GD or your average painting contest where theres a first , second or third..Its more of an exhibition of your work and when judged your only judged against yourself and not the rest of the show so in the end their are many golds, silvers and bronzes in any given category. So showing a body of work at a show like this with material from previous shows is allowed if not encouraged.Theres no chance of being beat out by someones award winning entry from another show..so why not show it all and appreciate it.

Awards like best of show are based useually on a popular vote by everyone who attends as a ballot.

I hope this helps make sense to you. I do see others have made input.

If there was a ban on entering and winning more than one competition, then I think we would see the death of very many shows.

Many modellers are competitive, and at each show you are seeing if the standard you have is viewed consistently from place to place. What is important is that you\'re not stopping anyone else getting an award (assuming it\'s an open system of judging)

My wife and I thought it was the best EXPO so far.
Still trying to recover from all those late nights :eek:.

A said I totally understand. I agree this way of judging does seem to be fairer. My main point is what War Griffon has said, where you see something win at say Salute, then go on to win GD UK then GD France and so on, that\'s what I was getting at.

thankfully no pictures with me have arisen yet. i try to stay out of them if i can help it as i usually end up looking like a goon!!
