I am starting(just ordered parts) a world war 1 inspired ig army(based off the 33rd genswick rifles)...i was thinking 2 basilisks on carriges pulled by horses..1 leman russ converted to make longer and put the top turret in the front with the other...

troops i will have 3 squads of 20 1 sgt,1grenade launcher,1 heavy wep squad, 1 vox, and 15 troops...for fast attack i am using rough riders...and for eleite i will use kaskrins modeled like american ww1 troops(doughboys) with gas masks.

tell me what ya think and when i get stuff in the mail and get greens done ill post pics...

An ambitious project. I like the sounds of the basilisks being towed by horses.
The Leeman Russ conversion sounds as if it will be quite an undertaking. I\'d be very interested in seeing the stages in the W.I.P. thread.

Cool idea, of course tanks didn\'t feature heavily until the later stages of WWI and then with mixed results but the concept is good. WWI saw a wide use of big Artillery with guns like the Big Bertha and railway mounted guns which were little more than naval guns on carraige bogies, HLBS make a 28mm scale big bertha that may fit in well with this and Dragon do railguns but I think this could look very cool. Also GW Earthshaker platform would fit the bill I think. I have quite a few books on WWI and also of the development of the tank which was first called a landship as it was developed by the navy. Keep us posted.

yah thats why i am only including 1 leman russ to kind of keep up with the fluff that there were not many tanks..i also came across some old toy train tracks and i am considering making my own big bertha..and for the leman russ i plan on just cutting out the mid section of the basilisk chassis(chimera) and putting it inbetween the leman russ front and back to make it have this kind of a shape..... \\________/ and mount the barrels in the front..tho i am considering twin linking the bolters on one side of the sponson and putting the main turrent onanother to simulate the fact that early tanks had turrents in the sponson...tho i am not sure if i can do that legally with the rules and so on but hopefully if gw gets there stuff in order my order will be here sooner than later..which i higly doubt:rolleyes:

thanks for the help and if you guys have an pics or anything that can be helpfull id love if you guys could post em

sounds like a good idea i guesse lol id have to see it tho...and unfortunatly i dont know much about the american WW1 troops other then the fact that the uniforms were close to that of the british and canadian\'s uniform.... if you think your up to it id take it up a notch and make em as close to WW1 troops as possible... for the troops simply file the legs from the boot to slightly below the knee then after painting wrap a green coloured tape (or green painted masking tape would prolly look best) and wrap it around the top of the boot to where u stoped filing for putties. give em the old \"turtle helms\" and paint em up in the old WW1 colours (for brits a a khaki like green for canadians a green with less of a khaki as said dont know much about the amrican stuff) for the grenade launcher make a lil catapult that fires grenades or possibly rifle grenadier (these were common in the trenches) also a slightly converted land raider would work great as a WW1 like tank... or even better a WW1 tank converted with GW peices! id love to see pics as it goes along! (man i gotta stop re enacting lol) as for not many tanks thats not entirely true... true there was not an amazing ammount however there were a fair ammount!

One of the best books that I have in the subject of WWI tanks is this one,

TheBritishTanksFrontCover.jpg

TheBritishTanksBackCover.jpg

It has many photos and drawings of the British Tanks that were developed from 1915 -1919, and has some very in-depth narrative explaining the different modifications made to them as time progressed and the different types that were tried and tested, and used with as I said mixed results. If you can get a hold of it you may find it an invaluable reference book but if not I would be happy to try and scan and copy anything that might be of use to you.

There was a guy who did something like this in a White Dwarf article a while back, one of the neat things that I noticed was that he used Bretonian peasant heads for the WWI style helmets. Another was the addition of converted Ork shootas for heavy bolters, it gave it a good old timey feel. Just some suggestions I thought I\'d throw out there.

An interesting solution is to buy car repair mesh, and use some tinsnips or similar to cut parallel to the mesh slightly away from an individual line. If i haven\'t lost you. I\'m sure you can imagine.
I\'ve used this method (annoyingly none of it on hand atm), and it looks pretty good imo.
It certainly takes shapes well if you wrap a length of it round a tube. And definitely looks sharper than strands of wire twisted together.

yeah i have done this. it looks great for terrain. the etched stuff is a little bit more detailed (and therefore better) for individual model though. but it is a LOT more expensive. i\'m sticking to the mesh method for now

a good start i\'d say. try and add some creases to the gs clothing. even if they\'re not very good, it makes them look better than just a block of gs
