I knew it! I so knew it! I\'m so glad I didn\'t pick up any 4th edition stuff besides the PHB!

Players Handbook 4.5 Edition:

\"The first of three re-released core rulebooks for the 4.5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game.

The Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game has defined the medieval fantasy genre and the tabletop RPG industry for more than 30 years. In the D&D game, players create characters that band together to explore dungeons, slay monsters, and find treasure. The 4.5th Edition D&D rules offer the best possible play experience by presenting exciting character options, an elegant and robust rules system, and handy storytelling tools for the Dungeon Master. This is a revised edition of the 4th edition rulebooks released in 2008. This new edition takes into account the thousands of emails and forum posts submitted by members of D&D insider.

The Player’s Handbook presents the official Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game rules as well as everything a player needs to create D&D characters worthy of song and legend. This new edition will combine the best of the 4th edition Player\'s Handbook I and Player\'s Handbook II.

Core Rulebook: The 4.5th edition Player’s Handbook is the first of three core rulebooks that will be required to play the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game. Due to the amount of changes we have included in this revised edition, previous books, including the 4th edition Dungeon Master\'s Guide and Monster Manual will not be compatable with this edition. Due to this being announced at the start of the 2nd quarter, all future books, including Monster Manual II, Dungeon Master\'s Guide II and Player\'s Handbook III will be compatable with 4.5th edition.

Even Quicker and easier play: Improved page layout and presentation enables new and established players to understand and learn the 4th Edition D&D rules quickly. Don\'t like the order we used? Change it! Harking back to the days of the AD&D 2nd edition Monster Manual we have decided to present this new edition in hole punched binder format. This will allow you to arrange the book in the order that works best for you. This format will also allow players to take only the needed pages with them to a game. No longer will you have to lug around the powers for all the clases, you can make a binder specific to your character.

D&D Insider: Free 30 day trail of D&D insider included with each 4.5th players handbook. Improve your characters and campaigns with content, tools, articles, and applications you’ll find here at Dungeons & Dragons Insider. Every month, Dragon and Dungeon Magazines offer players and Dungeon Masters new material, options, encounters, and adventures. The D&D Compendium provides you with a searchable database of all the official material from every rulebook and every issue of the online magazines. The Character Builder allows you to create and update characters quickly and easily. And a collection of Bonus Tools will help you spend less time prepping for your game and more time playing it.

Your 4(.5)dventure continues 4(.5)th quarter 2009!\"

And what day was this posted on???

It will happen... but give them about a year longer. You haven\'t bought enough 4.0 stuff yet.

I have a file cabinet full of 1.0 & 2.0 plus a bookcase of 3.0 & 3.5. This summer, our group has finally decided to give 4th a legitimate try....

I expected a better response ;)

Personally I run a 3.5 edition game every other weekend and I play in a 4th edition RPGA game on the opposite weekend.

It\'s amazing how dissimilar the two games are. As has been discussed quite a bit already, 4th edition just doesn\'t feel like D&D, but it\'s still a very fun game.

EDIT: edited because I suddenly had the spelling capacity of a 5 year old.

Its true!

Actually they did. But they are not calling it that, like the planet Bob.

The PHB2 was pretty much full of errata. The stealth rules are still a shambles.

After the recent demise of ALL online sales of PDF versions of the books, even a 4.5 edition labeled as such will probably not look bad to WotC as it will be the only thing anyone can purchase to play in available quantities.

So there may or may not be a 4.5 edition coming form them, but if not named as such it will still exist int he function of the system they intend to release the material. PHB@, 3, 4, etc as well as the DMG series of books that will constantly change the rules so you must have all copies to have the proper game.

They get more money that way for less buy having the customer pay for the errata, but not calling it a new .5 edition. ;)

I see where you are coming from but don\'t quite agree.

If all the PHB2 did was fix rules from PHB1 then sure, I would agree. But it includes a ton of new content. 5 New races and 8 new classes is enough to make this book worth releasing in my opinion. Add to that new Paragon and Epic Paths, new Feats, new Rituals, etc and to me the eratta is just a bonus.

I actually like the fact the errata is in the newly released books. This is much better then having to look online for the latest version of rules (especially when you are playing RPGA like I am and hate showing up to the game to find out that new power you just got doesn\'t work like you thought it did).

I also prefer them putting out a PHB every year instead of 3-6 \"Complete\" books. I would rather have all the new classes and races in one place rather then spread over multiple books.

hmm

We play what we call 4.5...a heavily modified 4E game...

We started some of the house rules in 3.XE, but completed the concepts when we started to 4E...some are still in progress.

My players seem to like our new magic system for wizards, divine system, and god system the best :D

Is the gnome a new race? the .5 was built into the format in which the books were intended to be sold and leave thing out intentionally form the beginning to force people to buy the new ones to get the same old game.

But this has been done and discussed so many times since Aug \'07, I don\'t think it needs to spill over here. The poor quality new D&D minis are more something be longing on CMoN, than how poorly WotC has become at doing business and their new games just bad even for children that HASBRO wants them aimed at.

So I will just say that 4.5 was built into 4th edition from the start. You can read more of my feelings on the matter elsewhere on various forums, I won\'t spill 18 months worth of vitriol on the matter here. ;)

Now to ask a question and see if Peter Le is still allowed amongst us in these parts.
