Hello all,

First just want to say I am fairly new at the hobby, but I am loving every minute of it. This site is a great resource and helps me pass a great deal of spare time at work. Lots of talent here.

Ok, anyone familiar with the Reaper Lizardman Tyrant? I started painting him and decided on a green/blue with yellow as a scheme but when I got to his bumpy scales I balked. I want them to be prominent but not stray far from the colors I have chosen:

Any suggestions? I need ideas for his scale bumps and his ridge. Any help is appreciated :)

hehehe...lizardmen...

well, I also just started on the WHF lizardmen army.

My way of painting the scales is tedious but it produces a better effect.

GW\'s way is to simply drybrush on it. Yuck! Look\'s terrible.

My way is to paint each scale in turn!! lol

I painted the scale, then wash it (either blue, green or black) and then using a lighter colour that I painted the scales with, coloured the rims and pull numerous brush strokes on each scale.

I haven\'t completed my army yet (actually, haven\'t even completed a single regiment - like I said, it\'s time consuming!!) but once I finish one of the regiment (and my friend happened to bring along his digital camera again - or else I\'ll use my SLR - although too lazy), I\'ll post it up.

Oooh, I like that Valander! I don\'t know if I can pull it off, but I am going to try! I am currently also looking at a mini that does the scales so they look like white bumps, but boney in a way. Hmmm... but this lizzie has flat scales, so I will give your idea a whirl. I have a limited pallette, but I understand your basic concept.

Thanks for the input both of you, I am going to put on some tunes and do a test scale.

Heya,

Having painted tons of lizardy thingies, I\'d suggest the main thing is to paint a darker basecoat and then highlight around the raised edges of each scale. Or do the reverse if the scale is highest in the middle and lowest round the edges if you get my drift..

Cheers,

Kat

Looking Good!

Looks good so far! About the only suggestion I can make is that you may want to put another layer of hilight on (just add more yellow), and place it mostly around the upper ends of the scales, where the light would most likely be coming from.

Practice/experimentation is always the key...I\'m still practicing too! :bouncy:
