Reading some of the replies here makes me very glad to live here in Sweden, where authorities get tons of letters of complaints from pensioners and strollers whenever they remove well made graffiti or declarations of love from the city. I'm not sure about the rest of the country but that led to a movement here(In Karlstad) called 'decorate the city'. This wasn't much, just the communal politicians allowing graffiti on certain walls and carvings on pieces of asphalt. The vandals virtually stopped tagging walls and such just because it was allowed plus it lets us keep the pretty things. Those who are after expressing their feelings and art thrive now instead of cowering in fear for being associated with said vandals. I wholeheartedly support Shawn's carvings. What surely will drag this world down to hell is zealotry; when you're not allowed to show the world that you exist, that everything is too sacred to be talked about and you'd get arrested for speaking your mind or expressing emotion. The stricter the regulations, the closer to hell we are. But I guess that's my opinion.
You'd be surprised, but I actually agree.
So much so, that I moved out of the city to live in an area where I pretty much can do what I want.
The problem lies in living in neighborhoods and apartment complexes of cities.
Just because you view something as art does not mean the rest of the inhabitants view it as such.
And here's the fun part, the rest of the inhabitants, whether they be old fogies or not, have a right to make a decision and it is just as valid as yours.
Who is right? Well, that's where the restrictions come in.
In reality here, I'm not really worried about what Shawn does.
What I'm doing is merely pointing out the fact that he chooses to live in a city with it's rules. Follow them or face the consequences with honor should you choose not to follow them.
Finger pointing and excuses is for children, politicians and crooks.
