Wow. That was really amazing.

Upset that the will didn't give them the money. What idiots! Maybe if they hadn't let her die alone, with nothing but the radio station to keep her company, the will may have been written differently?*

*I'm assuming worst-case on the family here. Just hard to tell which side was the most stupid.

"...this man is going to get hundreds of thousands of dollars from my aunt," she said. "And she wasn't a rich woman."

Man, if she "wasn't... rich" and still had "hundreds of thousands of dollars," I must be a serf.

Nobody comes out this article looking very good.

meh, it was her money to spend. No worse than blowing it on a Ferrari, or a gigolo really.

They shouldn't be upset, the government gets 50% before everyone else. And they will waste it even faster.

As sad as it was that this lady gave all of her estate to nutters, it's worse that the relatives are trying for a money grab, against the lady's last known wishes.

The relatives should not feel entitlement to her money.
But it is sad that she blew it all on a fraud.
Someone should bring him up on charges of fraud.

Well if it made her happy. And if the only difference between a fraud and a prophet is success rather than sincerity (or lack thereof)...

Ahh, but the bible is very specific as to how to handle false prophets.

Jeremiah 50:36
A sword against her false prophets!

And it will continue until the end:
Mark 13:22
New Living Translation (NLT)
22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.

The guy is a total charlatan like many of these little religious cults springing up all over the place. But if people are stupid enough to believe them.....

I saw some of this idiots church posters on the subway and a guy waving a placard in NYC whilst I was there. I was sorely tempted to purchase a can of Games Workshop Chaos Black and do some grafitti over it - then I remembered I would be no better than the crazy old lady giving all her money away. Sorely disappointed at the lack of (decent) grafitti on the NY underground by the way......... and where were all the gangs with knives and people chasing each barging through and shooting the place up ?

Are you sure you were in New York? It sounds more like Bel Air lol.

LOL. Cant remember where we got on the underground, we went through Grand Central and down to South Ferry to get to the Statue of Liberty. That South Ferry station is pretty darn clean and not a hobo in sight.....

My first trip to new york was scary! Our bus broke down in the middle of harlem!

Can you imagine 8 broad Northern Irish Teens (i was 18) Honestly there were people just watching us. Then a few guys walked over and started talking. I thought we were proper fucked! Turns out they liked our accent and chatted away to us for ages. Very nice people and i still keep in touch with one.

All the weird people live in new Jersey! (which is a very nice place too as it happens)

That's because new York city learned it was cheaper to give the hobos a one way ticket to a tropical island 5 years ago, then to pay for all the social stuff they were giving them at the time.
As far as the grafitti goes you need to show ID to buy spray paint.

But what I don't understand is if the world is to end on a certain date why would she need to put the church in the will? They wouldn't be around to collect the money. I bet the lawyer works for the church too.

A cults manipulation of its members is a strange thing to watch. There is no logic at all to the womans actions. This guy will get his come uppence I am sure, its pretty obvious he is a con man just out to fleece people. Maybe he will get knifed on the subway........

Yeppers at the first thing there DFB, look that some of those Apple computer users. Bonkers, I say absolutely complete nut-jobs.

The thing that I would like to know, does this church/radio station have any other 'good works' then the end of the world campaign? Say helping the homeless, missionary works around the world, disaster releafe for the Mid-West or Japan, something that doesn't sound nuts, but is helping the world in someway. Then maybe that was she was willing the money too.

Oh, and Uglybug, I'm may be wrong, but I don't think that the Government takes estate taxes on stuff willed to Churches/non profits, which I'm also guessing that this radio station is listed as......

Indeed Chrome, opened my eyes a bit because, of course, Apple is just the example brand for the article. I've laughed along at brand zealots before but never twigged to the connection with religion, with regards to the areas of brain that are stimulated, before. It's given me pause with regard to throwaway comments like "mindless fanboys" and reminded me that vast amounts of money are spent on psychological studies, not for the betterment of us all, but simply to sell us more product. Like the line "Anyone who says that they're unaffected by advertising is a fool unto themselves", there are large chunks of our brains responses that are entirely involuntary, and if the scientists producing the study say that intimate knowlege of the techniques in use is zero protection against being influenced by them, I tend to believe it ;)

Big things to come in this area of course as individually targeted advertising becomes an ever larger market. Google & Facebook et al might give a few surface things away for "free" but the data set they are collecting is mind-boggling. I could cope with it when I thought that I could, to a degree, opt out but I've realised now that I can't. Facial-recognition software was the big eye-opener. Obvious concerns over state/private security forces being able to use this info so I don't want to be there but... I only need to attend one party, where one friend of a friend takes a pic, uploads to Facebook and tags my face with my full name. Once that's happeneed 5 times they have my facial features mapped as well as my location (roughly) and that data will then be sold to anyone prepared to pay for it.

But I've strayed off topic haven't I? So I'll pre-empt the

Cheers, B.
PS will try to use the word regard less in future :D
