Wrath of kings - the plunge

Hey everyone, I am about to fund the wrath of kings kickstarter and I was hoping to hear what people's thoughts were on the miniatures and system. Are the mini's as awesome as they look? Has anyone seen them in person? How is the detail? Anything that you might compare them to quality wise? What is the plastic like? I'm especially interested in hearing about the plastic used on the weapons.

This will be my first kickstarter and I am curious to hear other people's thoughts on the quality and reliability of the service that is being offered. Cmon has already had awesome success with this so I guess what I am asking is does anyone have concerns about goods not being delivered.

All thoughts are eagerly awaited, Shakes.

I bought the resin figs when they first came out. Those are beautiful.

The key thing that is really putting me off is that the Kickstarter figs are supposed to be part resin, part plastic. And the plastic is supposed to be hard to work with. Mind, this is anecdotal, I have no first-hand experience with it. But I have heard this from people I trust, and know personally, so I'm taking some of it onboard.

In terms of delivery, you judge for yourself - past CMON Kickstarters are still being delivered, examples being Zombicide and Sedition Wars. Based off what I've experienced with CMON's delivery and governance, they are well within my risk appetite.

Me, I'm actually OK with the 6 month odd delivery timeframe - I've got so many things to paint, I can afford to wait for new things to come in.

There's a big thread on this on Dakka Dakka. Why don't you head on over there and read it yourself? Search for the thread called "Wrath of Kings Kickstarter".

Re CMoN kickstarters. I'd say that KS is a good way to get a good deal, but be prepared to wait for a long time. I backed BfA in July last year, and am still waiting for the extras (although the base game was delivered a few months ago.) CMoN have picked up a lot of flak for their poor communications with backers, and tbh a lot of it is deserved. They tend to heavily promote whatever their latest project is, but once a KS is funded backers can find themselves adrift in the wilderness. I think a lot of the problems people have with CMoN's kickstarters comes down to how the backers view the KS vs how CMoN views the KS. You have to bear in mind that CMoN's goal is to make money, pure and simple. They're not in it for the love of the hobby. As a backer you take a speculative risk on a game. Will it fly or will it sink? Nobody knows, and there's no guarantee. If a game isn't likely to make them more money, CMoN aren't going to waste their time supporting it when they could be pushing their successes (like zombicide). If you're comfortable with that, then by all means take the plunge and buy into the KS. Tis your call, and don't be swayed by either the "yay! It's ace! Best minis EVAR!!!" crowd or the "CMoN suck - they're ignoring my complaints!" crowd. Make your own decision, and stick by it down the line :)

I've had pretty decent experience with KS. I've only backed 2 so far but here's my experience. Mr Wappel had a painting kick starter that I backed. He has had damn near daily updates on how the project is going. Excellent communication! I also backed raging heroes TTG Kick starter. Since the KS closed it's been pretty mute - However, they are an established mini co and I have other minis to paint so I can wait until they send those out. I doubt very much that they will rip me off given their track record. I am disappointed that the angry Sheep KS got cancelled, it looked really fun. The main thing i believe it to be patient and ask questions if you feel concerned. Funding is one thing, but there are always production delays so it can be nerve racking for backers and creators alike.
