OJ Simpson is a different kettle of fish, no one filmed the murder. At the end of the day a jury is strange beast. A murder trial down here ended up with a hung jury. He walked into a real estate agent with a shot gun and killed a receptionist with it. We caught him coming out the door with the still loaded shotgun. He levelled it at both police who attended, swinging from one to another (we only have a 38 and so were outgunned). Before he surrendered the weapon he fired a shot into a schoolyard. There was a single juror who refused to give a guilty verdict on a charge of murder because of some personal gripe she had. Anything is possible when you are dealing with a jury.

The jury makes a decision put before it according to the rules laid down by the umpire. Usually they have more information in more depth than anyone sitting on the sidelines watching TV or reading the papers. Generally they get to hear from the participants and witnesses before they make up their mind instead of reading a reporters impression of the people involved.

Lastly, at the end of the day, Beyond Reasonable Doubt can be a hell of a hurdle to jump.

I wish you were completely right, but judging on how the extremist parties (both left and right) are getting on the move, I\'m not sure things will go so smoothly for the next elections.

From what I heard, the politicians in favor of a sixth republic would want the power more in the hands of the parliment. We already saw what that drove to in the fourth republic ...

Personaly, I think that limiting the mandates and the number of times you can hold one is a better idea. It would allow new people and ideas to come and corruption would be less present ... but since it\'s the politicians who\'ll have the end vote on this, I have serious doubts it\'ll ever happen.

Speaking about riot is exagerating!!!
2 young kids died, probably by stupid accident, and some others of the same suburb told this was the fault of the police (maybe it was anyway, only them know...), and then came some night fights between SOME young kids and police.
It happens quiet often by us, in every city with dark suburbs...
There are incredible ethnic problems too, I say incredible cause I never gave importance to the origin of someone, in my job (as teacher) or in everyday\'s life.

I think the problem is some people are just enable to simply live their lives and nees too disturb others to feel happy...

They\'re also talking about possible terrorist recuperations. I think the media should be very careful about this. OK things aren\'t bright and sparkling, but this is not the moment to give a certain politician (the french will know who I\'m talking about) what he wants to get to power.
