Wyrd \"Iron Painter\" challenge.

Over at Wyrd, we had organized a little \'paint off\' challenge a few months back, and would like to do another.

The rules are basic. Participants are randomly paired, a \'theme\' ingredient is announced, Participants have 2 weeks to complete the mini. At the end it will be judged by a panel of three impartial judges. The winners advance to the next round where everything repeats (new theme each time) Until we have a champion.

Check out the full rules HERE

And if interested please SIGN UP HERE

It was alot of fun to run the contest last time, and we had some great entries.

The challenge really comes from not only having to adapt a theme, but also the grueling short turn around to get finished.

Can you be the IRON PAINTER CHAMPION??

another great part of this competition is that there is a ton of feedback and comments about every entry, win or lose :)

Nope...not at all. You do have to sign up and become a WYRD member. But thats free, and there are no strings attached at all. It allows you to upload your pics onto the gallery is all...but if you want to stop in and chat on the forums there, feel free!!!

Any miniature you wish would be fine. But remember, there will be a \'theme\' announced. (read the rules!!;)).

Yea i had a quick glance, but was unsure about the mini, ill probly lose but il have a go anyway!

The last one was quite fun...lots of smack talk and banter. It really feels more of a group excercise than a contest!

HI supervike,
So this theme thing, can you give me an example as I have never done a competition before, but I liked the vostroyan GD minis painting so much, I\'m sure interested in this.
So basically I paint a mini to theme post photos, if I lose I pay winner $5, if I win I go to next round etc untill one wins:D

The THEME works roughly like this....

I choose up about 15 different Themes

Example:

NMM
Metallics
The color purple

I randomly choose one, and that is what the painters are to use for that round. Actually, no one is forcing you to use the theme, but it is a major factor in your scoring. I remember in the last competition, one participant had a great painted mini, but the theme was weak. That was enough for the challenger to win.

One of the cool elements is that you are not competeing against everyone all at once, just the one you are paired against.

That is it! You got it.

Vike forgot this link

many of your questions can be answered by looking at the gallery from the first Iron Painter competition.

You will note that there is not a single Wyrd mini in the bunch. GW, Revelation, Reaper etc.

It may also help you understand themes
First was Metalics
Second was OSL
Third was NMM.

I think it stands for Object Source Lighting, but could be On Source Lighting etc.

It\'s where the mini has a light source and you paint it such that the sculpted light source (torch, magic weapon, glowing eyes etc.) is actually a source of light.

There\'s a great thread on it in the Painting & Conversion section
HERE

And a tutorial on it

@Supervike, iv signed up for this comp because i think it will be a good kick start for me to learn a new skill, but when the people are paired up are noobs pitted against noobs to give them a fairer chance and so they have a chance to improve in the next round, or is the selection completely random?

Odds are I\'ll end up forfeiting Round 1 for not completing a mini on time... but what the hell, I\'ll do it! :) I\'ll make sure to register on the Wyrd board and officially sign up by the 7th.

glad to see so much interest from over here, it really was a good time the first go around, I think even those who didn\'t win hopefully got a lot of really good feedback on their miniatures and hopefully enjoyed the challenge.

If I get to be a judge again this time around, I get the fun of leaving feedback on all of them for sure! :)
