Hi all,

Rotten-Harvest-2006.gif

Time to kick of one of the more fun and well arranged competitions around. Well IMHO atleast. Time to get out the ghouls, freaks and scary Halloween tinted miniatures and slap some paint on them. The better you manage to do that the more chance of a price.

Without further ado I give you the kick of of : THE ROTTEN HARVEST (go join... I know you want to).

With the Halloween and Harvest season right around the corner, it is once again time to kick things off with, to date, our most popular contest, The Rotten Harvest! We\'ve decided to return to a popular theme that we had last year about this time and will be making this a return event for some time to come, along with some other fun themes here later in the year.

Fillet of a fenny snake, In the caldron boil and bake;[/I]
Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder\'s fork, and blind-worm\'s sting, Lizard\'s leg, and owlet\'s wing,—
for a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

The contest will run from September 24th through October 31st and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under \'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information\'. I would really like to stress folks to read the rules, as folks tend to miss them for some reason and they end up misunderstanding the contest, the theme or disqualify themselves.

Due to the sheer number of people that have entered unedited photographs in the past we will no longer do any editing for you. There are many free photo resizing programs out there. Wyrd staff will attempt to notify anyone who\'s pictures were deleted due to size or for any reason, but can not guarantee notification.

The categories for the contest are:

Witches and Warlocks: Spellcasters of all sorts, from high fantasy, modern day dabbler to the far sci-fi future. If they carry a wand, cast a spell or even have a hint of mysticism to them, this is the category for them.

Not Quite Dead Yet: Still stumbling around after all the major organ functions have shut down? Have a beef with the living? This category is for the Undead, or as they like to be called \'Living Impaired\'.

Things that go Bump in the Night: Creatures, critters, monsters and other things that have a tendency towards anti-social behavior and prowl the night looking for victims. Caution, here be Monsters!

The Trick or the Treat: This is our catch-all category as there are some miniatures that are just right for the theme but just don\'t seem to fall into any other category. Zombie Hunters, pumpkin characters and I\'m sure several miniatures I never would have even contemplated.

The Harrowing Harvest: A diorama with two or more miniatures locked in combat, or something as equally disturbing. Much like our last contests \'Deadly Duel\'.

[/INDENT]Again we have been very fortunate with the number of sponsors that have chosen to provide support packages for the contest. Thank you very much for your time and efforts and I encourage everyone to let them know your appreciation! We hope to add many more sponsors in the near future as more companies lend their support to this round of contests. If you would like to support the contest, please feel free to contact me,

I am once again looking forward to a great contest as they seem to be getting bigger and better with each passing due to your participation and the sponsors. Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

I still think the best thing about these contests is the feedback. If you\'re frustrated with getting very few comments on your work here on cmon, go look at the past wyrd contests and notice every entry has at least 10+ comments

The fact there are random prizes for both those who enter and those who comment is nice little motivation as well! lol

Yeah, I got a handful of minis in the latest Total Testosterone competition just for commenting on all entries and being awarded a \"Completely Wyrd Schmuck\" award. :)

Well... basically no, you are supposed to keep entries to yourself. As they can accidentaly give away your identity and thus getting the fig disqualified and all that. But then again... if they are discrete and don\'t tell anyone, and nothing leaks ou on the net... who is to know? You are still anonimous then... which is the rule... anonimous entries. This has bitten people in the butt before. Even if someone else gives away your identity with the figure you are entering, even if it\'s completely not your fault/doing... the mini is disqualified, no exceptions. So I\'m guessing it\'s up to you who to trust and how much risks you are willing to take. My family and friends (including 2 online) see my figures too before the competition is over... so that\'s not much different. And only one of them can vote for my miniatures online... but i know he will vote very fairly anyway (wouldn\'t like it any other way).

The prize system on this is set up very nicely to provide incentives for those who aren\'t yet competition class painters or who don\'t have the time to do a competition level entry. Between the random prizes for entering, for voting, and for doing extensive commenting, I think I have won prizes in 3-4 of the 6 Wyrd comps I\'ve entered, and only once was that from the paint job winning something.

And as Eric says, it\'s a great avenue for getting feedback on your stuff and what people like about it or think you could improve. Aside from all of that, there\'s always some amazing painting, conversions and humour that makes it fun to just view and vote on the entries.

A word of advice to everyone who is thinking of entering: start your entries as soon as possible! Even if it\'s a whole month until deadline and you think that\'s plenty of time, all of a sudden it\'s not more than two days and you discover that there\'s no chance in hell you\'ll be able to finish. Been there, done that, so I know what I\'m talking about! :innocent:

The WYRD contests are always fun, but especially so with the ROTTEN HARVEST.

Halloween is becoming my favorite holiday anyhow, and what better way to celebrate that to come up with some creepy crawleys?

Kudos to Nathan for another great opportunity to paint and have fun!

I wish I\'d held Vlad back from the Something Wyrd and entered him in rotten harvest, but I fell victim to having just got Dawn of War.
