I\'ve been wondering that myself. So far I\'ve logged a little 12 hours of ass time in this chair compiling this stuff.

Thankfully, I\'m just about done. Another half hour or so should see everything up on the website and announcements made.

Congratulations to all the winners! I\'m proud to say I had all three in the Fantasy category picked in just that order! I also picked the #2 for Deadly Duel correctly, although I\'m not sure if that could be considered a \'duel\'.

I picked Destroy for best base as well, but I chose something else for best of show. Even though I really loved it I didn\'t want to give a single piece three #1 slots. It was very deserving, though.

Great stuff all around people! I really enjoyed looking at all the entries.

(except for the one I thought was atrocious and it actually placed in a category! To each his own, I guess)

Well someone outed me (cough*supervike*) in the comments. I want to note that no one commented on the base and in fact the folks at the local painting club didn\'t realize it wasn\'t original. The original base was just flat. I added cobblestones breaking under his feet, sculpted from Cernit - and discovered in the process that you can bake a painted mini for up to 10 minutes in a 350 oven without hurting the paint!

Anyway, he was kind of rushed and once the work is done on my house I\'ll rephotograph him and include the back and post him in my gallery with some description.

So, Vince, let me get this straight, You put that fully painted mini in the oven??? That would sure help in getting rid of \'integral\' bases, if I could use sculpey around them and make a better base.

I assume that mini, being older, was pure lead. Do you think it would hurt a lead mini to put it in BEFORE painting??

I am pretty sure it was not pure lead.
The mini is dated \'88 on the bottom so it\'s not quite 20 - a fair stripling to some of my minis.
Anyway, I\'m pretty sure minis haven\'t been pure lead (except home kits) since the 60s or early 70s, though he has a higher lead content no doubt than a modern mini.

Yes, I put that fully painted mini (well, the base wasn\'t painted yet obviously) in the oven. I tried it first on a different mini, one of my CCV entries - the boring waitress mini, that I didn\'t particularly care for. When she came out okay I decided I could do the big guy.

I don\'t think an unpainted mini would be harmed in the oven. I mean you\'d have to get it pretty darn hot, even if it were pure lead, to melt from convection.

Hey, anyone remember the scene in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves where the merry men are making arrowheads over an open campfire? A metalsmith/armorer I know said the only metal he knows of that you can melt over an open fire is solder - and even if it had existed in Robin Hood\'s time, solder would make particularly crappy arrowheads.

Is the mini oven-safe before or after varnishing? Or does it matter? That might be a very interesting thing to do with resin figures if I use oils (which my friend told me is considered \"cheating\" by Chaz Elliot...lol).

Holy cow...you mean I actually placed in something? Yay! Now I\'ll probably do some touch-ups that I was too lazy to do before and actually have something in my gallery here....sometime or another.

I don\'t usually varnish minis unless they are gaming pieces or I want part to be glossy part matt part satin (like a chariot).

That makes sense, especially if you\'re not gaming with the piece. From what I gather, a lot of folks who do resin garage kits don\'t varnish either.

Heh, I was dragging so badly when I finally pulled my carcas into the bed last night that I didn\'t get a chance to post. Glad someone caught it!

Huge thank you to everyone that participated, I\'m already starting to sort out goodies and packaging them and will be making a run to the post office later to pick up declaration forms for shipping stuff overseas.

Truth be told, I was a little surprised yesterday when I started adding up the numbers for some of these. Some of these I knew were surging ahead in the votes quickly, but when I started doing the \'tic marks\' and watched some of them fly away from the others, and one that I was rather surprised about in general, it was a real hoot. It got to the point where I was read the entry number and immediately know which miniature was which (29, 27, 13, 50 ... etc..).

Yup, I thought everyone deserved a fair shot at the comments and decided to put them all up instead of just \'choice\' ones. That\'s what took the longest as this was all by e-mail and even with copy and pasting, I found I had problems with word wrap, spacing, capitalization and the one that killed me the most, not ending a sentence with a period or some other closing mark which I had to go and do then. Well worth it though.
