XV 81 Crisis Suit

Hey everybody, I just the other day posted my recent XV81 Crisis Suit on my CMON account. I hope you\'ll take a look and like what you see :)

He was really fun to work with, even after a few \"issues\" with thin resin pieces and funky poses/big metal guns stuck on the end of their arms ;) I really like the FW Battlesuits a lot, I have 2 more (an XV89 and the Commander Shas\'O\' R\'Myr) for the army I want to do eventually, and will probably get more once they are done.

As far as the painting goes, the basic premise for the army paint scheme is to hilight as much as possible by adding Bleached Bone. It should tie in the army, suggesting a similar material being used in the construction of most Tau tech. I see them using an advanced plastic kind of material more than traditional alloys... kinda like Stormtrooper armor (but hopefully more effective in saving our blue butts from getting hacked to bits).

There\'s some of the blue-white glowing cracks going on in his weaponry, but the angles don\'t show it off much. You can see a few glimpses, I trust you\'ll just assume it\'s like that in the larger cracks on the big gun too :D

Anyway, if you have any suggestions for future Tau I\'d love to hear them. I never got the hang of Tau markings so this guy doesn\'t have any yet. I want good references before I go mucking around with my shiny models! Thanks!

I\'m glad you approve! I hope the pain and suffering undergone to get the quartered black and white missile pods was worth it lol

I actually spotted these on the second or third look-over and yes, they do work really well (insert some knowledgable sounding babble about juxtapositioning, contrast etc). Hope that justifies the pain and effort ;)

love those colours - it looks great! on of the best ones i have seen. only one issue, in my opinion, his right leg should be internally rotated a little as it seems too bent outwards...if you see what i mean

Yeah, fantastic colour scheme! I really like your highlighting style too, very unique and graphic. Awesome pose too  Voted and commented!

Thanks :D And yes, the legs didn\'t come out 100% as planned. His right leg looked better dry fit than when I glued it all together, but there wasn\'t much I could do about it because of the thin resin pieces involved. The other leg was also originally supposed to be tucked in a bit more, but the legs simply wouldn\'t allow it.

I wanted a super crazy high speed anime robot kind of look but the limitations of the physical model kinda rained on my parade a little bit ;)

The real question now is whether or not I ruin everything trying to weather/detail it a little more, or leave it clean :p

Yeah the super clean look definitely has an anime feel to it, but at the same time there\'s a certain Cyberpunk kind of anime style that\'s a lot more gritty and still manages to look awesome :D I probably will end up keeping him clean, maybe some minor paint chips down the road if I do up a test figure/pile of spare parts that turns out well.

Hey it made the Top Last 7 Days list today, I haven\'t had a mini in there in a good long while lol

I guess I must\'ve done something right... maybe I should get off my butt and paint the rest of the Tau army I bought last year.

It\'s been working every time I\'ve checked it so far... possibly just a minor downtime for Shaw, my internet provider/web host. I think it\'s fixed itself by now. I hope so anyway!

To comment on the center chest bit, I think the grey spot in the middle of the chest and the green spot on his back are my two favorite parts of the model. The blends just came out super smooth there, better than I expected. It\'s just 3 feathered hilights over the basecoats... I haven\'t been able to repeat the success with that few layers on anything else in these colors though lol

How utterly infuriatingly modest of you :flame: lol

I must admit (If somewhat begrudgingly!) that it is a thing of beauty :p

Haha I\'m in final exam mode, I have an excuse for any impropriety lol

Sleep deprivation might not hold up in court (NGRI - not guilty by reason of insanity just doesn\'t work like it used to) but it probably lets me get away with things once in a while.

Back to the Abnormal Psychology textbook for me, I can\'t believe I\'m missing all this HD hockey for a mere final exam or three :p
