Welp, I decided to take a picture of my latest, just so I could be reminded of how badly my camera sucks. (As soon as I get a job, I swear the first thing I\'ll be buying is a camera that\'s at least 1.0 MP. ;)).

Anyway, I\'m pretty happy with her. Metallics were definitely fun to use again, after all my NMMing. I did do some weathering on the skirt, though it doesn\'t show much in this pic, and the holes in the soul cages have a little more subtle glowing effect that my 640x480 camera can\'t seem to deal with. Oh well.

She is a gaming piece, too, which is why I didn\'t do much with the base. While all the nifty crap people put on bases is kind of nice for display, when you game with them it changes the model\'s profile, and can make it more vulnerable to ranged attacks and such. So there! :p

Hummm you are right you definetly need a new camera :p From what I can see metaliics look good, and the purple too ( it\'s a conspiracy to make me feel bad about my horendous purples !!). Skin look a touch to light for my taste, but I guess it could also go with the feel of the mini. Gave you a 7.

Yes very nice looking Anthony. As stated a better camera would help. I think that the metals came out nice. I personally like the simple base. And the purples are nice as well. The dirtying up of the loin cloth is a nice effect that you do not see on enough \"gamming mini\'s\". I would agree with frenchy that the skin tones look a little pale. But then that could be due to the fact that the mini is far away and we are not getting a good feel for the skin tones. A closer veiw would be nice as well.

I too had thoughts about the skin tones, they do look very light. But it\'s really hard to tell how good the paint job is, alas. I CAN tell the purple is quite well done :) And it\'s a tough colour to get right, as I can certainly attest.

There was a big impact on my scores after I bought a new camera. Of course there was also a big impact in the other direction on my pocketbook :( A digital with decent resolution and macro is not cheap. Though if you\'re putting away pennies I\'d recommend the Canon Powershot A series. The next-to-latest model can often be quite heavily discounted.

Well, people have already echoed my thoughts about the skirt; very nice. No one has yet mentioned how you do an excellent job with the metallic metals. They look great.

I have the Canon Powershot A80 and while I\'m still learning how to photgraph minis I heartly recomend it (the current version is A90 I think) as an all purpose camera. Its larger than a compact but still small enough that I can shove it in a jacket pocket. When I was looking to buy, I got the Canon because it has the full range of manual settings and takes a decent photo on full auto. My wife doesn\'t even use the zoom but walks close/further from the target so the quality of auto setting photos was a consideration for me ;).

Thanks for the feedback, all. The biggest issue is the camera, but until I get a job and quit being an unemployed college graduate, I\'ll have to just suck it up. I expect that I\'d probably average at least 0.5 higher with a decent camera.

As for the skintone, yes she is pale. That was intentional, since she\'s a Cryx chick and supposed to be touched by Lord Toruk\'s (massive dragon demi-god) blight. Since the majority of his army is undead, it made sense for her to be almost vampirish in her skin tone, too. There is more shading than shows up in the pic, though, so she\'s not just white like it kind of looks like.

The purples were fun, and actually not that hard for me. Here\'s what I did, since a lot of people seem to have issues with them:

1. Prime white.
2. Coat area with a black glaze (in this case, VMC Black and VMC Glaze Medium, at about 1:3).
3. Base with 50% of the above + VMC Royal Purple. I left the deepest folds black.
4. VMC Royal Purple, fairly thin (1:2).
5. Do a couple of layers of highlight by progressively adding VMC Violet Blue to the Royal Purple, ending with a layer of pure Violet Blue.
6. Tween the sucker. ;)

As for the metallics, they were all VMC stuff. I did a base coat of Bronze (over white primer; takes two thin coats to get a nice, smooth finish), washed with VMC Smoke thinned to around 1:5, added a little black to the Smoke and thinned further and washed again. After the washes were totally dry, I went back with the Bronze and picked out most areas to clean up, then highlighted by adding some VMC Metallic Medium to the Bronze. Only did a little tweening for the Bronze-Bronze+MM transition, since with metallics they don\'t need as much.

The Canons are definitely on my list of cameras to grab, whenever I get cash. I\'ve been doing a lot of reading up, and it looks like those have a pretty damn good macro.
