Ye Olde Undaves WIP Almanacke

It\'s sad to say that my four year old daughter probably has a better attention span than I do. I have so many WIP projects floating around my sprue room it\'s untrue. I tend to start something and work on it until the next idea pops into my head and then leave it for weeks if not years at a time, returning to it occasionally to do a bit more work and very occasionally to actually finish something. Rather than starting a new thread for each and every bit of tat that I start banging together I think I’ll start this as a place where I can show off everything in one place. Expect to see a different project on a weekly if not more frequent basis and rejoice with me if anything ever gets completed. The more interest a project generates out there in CMON-land the more likely I am to lavish it with attention so please help me to get through my mini collection by making comments, good or bad, about my stuff.

To start off with here’s a pic of a mounted warrior priest I cobbled together last night after reading Ogrebane’s GS tips, the Vaseline worked a treat and the rivet stick idea so great yet so simple I can’t believe I didn’t think of it. My GS skills are improving an exponential rate since I started looking at these pages So A massive thanks go out to all you CMONers.

I still need to lengthen the skirts and do a saddle back so he\'s in a more upright position but it won\'t take too much effort. The end result I\'m aiming for is to have two units of 10 of these guys done, to use as knightly order with great weapons, in time for the plastic flagellants box this summer.

Man i know what your going through.. Ive been working my SM army for almost a year & bairly got a tac squad painted lol.. so many ideas so little time..

I got to tell you Im really digging the Chem dogs.. very nice work..

I usually have a problem starting something and then with a couple of weeks to go I have to get em done. Do you game. If you do then set a dead line to have a particular army done by the next tournament etc. It works for me.

Those are looking great, I really like the conversion work on the priest - very characterful. I, too, know exactly how you feel with unfinished WIPs, and I\'m only 13 ossessed: It\'s a horrible disease, I tell you! lol

Look forward to seeing more of your stuff - this is very promising so far

Don\'t get me wrong I have no problem with the fact that nothing ever seems to get finished I\'m quite happy to bimble back and forth through my vast mini collection. I do game quite a bit but I don\'t tend to do tournaments, having said that I\'m off to one next week. The last one I went to I ended up painting 75 Prateorians 2 days before the event and started seeing pith helmets whenever I closed my eyes.
I hate giving myself deadlines as I find it turns the hobby into a chore, I\'d rather work on something untill I lose interest or start something else and return to it at a later date when my enthusiasm has built up again. That way I always enjoy what I\'m working on and I can put my best into it.

I\'m really liking the warrior priest on horse. You should get a Luthor Huss to lead them. The Chemdogs look cool too, are they for/from necromunda?

I bought good ol\' Luth yesterday lol but I don\'t think the current model really does him justice. I\'m going to try and give him the scumminator treatment so he looks a bit more hard bitten.
The two standing chemdogs in the lowest pic are ashwasters from necromunda which sadly don\'t seem to be available any more , the kneeling one is an old cadian lascannon opperator with the head of an even older Confrontation (the GW precursor to Necro, nothing to do with Rackham) tech ganger and a bit of badly sculpted GS for the collar lol likewise the other standing guy has a techie head on a GW tank crew body. The LT is just a Delaque with a weapon swap and a GS filter mask.
Good luck on scavenging any of those bits as they are now rarer than rocking horse poo
These blokes were really just a kind of idle stopgap untill I found a more reliable way to manufacture them wholesale. I think I might be on to a winner so if everything comes together expect a cracking tute on how to make them in the near future. It\'s so easy I could kick myself for not thinking of it sooner.

*Sigh* So I\'m going to this tourney next Sunday and I was dead set on taking my spangly new Emperors Children army. But then I lost so many games whilst practicing that I gave up on them and moved on to my Nid army instead. But then that didn\'t do much better.....
So I thought stick with what you know and now I\'m intending to take those sodding pith helmeted guardsmen again (mainly so I can wear the hat lol). Ostensibly they\'re a completed army so I shouldn\'t strictly speaking put pics of them in here but as you can see there\'s still a fair way to go yet. Can you believe these guys won best painted army? I think the combined effect of 120 odd guys in blue or red tunics arranged in neat firing lines is what did it.

The only 40k army I\'ve ever seen which uses movement trays. \"Wait for it..... \'hindependent FIRE\"

Well I\'m back from the tornament and I have to say the lads aquitted themselves with a sterling effort placing my in the top 5 tier out of about 60 entrants :bouncy:
As a reward I\'ve decided to do a bit more work on some long overdue reinforcements in the form of cavalry

If anyone knows any good tips for painting dapples I\'d appreciate hearing them because as you can see from the bloke on the right I seem to be rubbish at it

I know there was one on GW for a long time... It was PDF of an old White Dwarf article, I can\'t seem to find it online right now though... I\'ll keep looking and let you know if I ever find it.

Yeah, I belive it was... I think maybe if you made them a bit more sparse, and a bit less distinct from the main colour of the horse it\'d look better.

OK so I\'m back with an update on the masses of projects cluttering up my sprue room. I\'ve been a bit busy for the past couple of months glueing and converting the vast pile of Dark Angels I got for my birthday. I now have the equivalent of 2 and a half companies worth

Progress on the Sigmarite knight from the top of the thread. He\'s just about ready to be painted all he\'s lacking is a few of the dangly bits from the flagellant sprue.

He now has a few mates to keep him company

Also currently on the workbench are a posse of low down dirty varmints going by the name of the Boot Hill Boys

DaNs signature says something about historical minis not having enough boobies. Boobies I could quite cheerfully paint but there\'s something wrong about painting some Highlanders todger :no: I certainly won\'t be licking the brush after that.....

Still at least the heather looks bonny

Think your knights look really good, but as their leader has so many purity seals shoudn\'t the others have a few as well.
The boot Hill gang is just excellent - are they from the scorpion range?

If anyone\'s interested here\'s a closeup look at some of the new flagellants out soon. I was lucky enough to pick up 4 sprues worth (20) in the lucky dip at the 300 WD party at my local GW last weekend. When the pics of them went up on the GW website a while back I was convinced that they were going to look Godawful but I was pleasantly surprised when I got them. I think it must be something to do with the eavymetal team not being able to put things together in convincing poses (???)

@ manus I\'m intending to jaz up the other horses when I\'ve finished GSing a bit more armour onto the riders. The champ was realy just an excercise to see if it looked good enough to apply to the whole unit. Does anyone know a good way to stiffen the paper for the seals? So far I\'ve used 5 or so coats of pva but they\'re still very brittle. The Cowpokes are mainly from Artizan minis with the exception of the two with rifle and shotgun which were foundry I believe.

Does anyone have any of the Black Scorpion minis, because I get the impression they are a fair bit taller than most 28mm figs and I was wondering how well they would fit in to the posse?

Which leads me to another question: I was just spraying the knight champ and it struck me that I have absolutely no idea about a colour scheme. I was thinking possibly red robes and a scorched/bestial brown for the horse barding. Problem is I can\'t see reds very well so I have no idea which ones to use as most of the time my efforts end up orange with pink bits apparently. Can someone reccomend a triad (shade/main/highlight) in the GW range or possibly vallejo as I\'m slowly switching over to them. otherwise I\'m throwing it open, What would be a good colour scheme?

But how does it compare to the artizan/foundry stuff. I was looking for a more side by side comparison if anyone has minis from both manufacturers. I don\'t want to get a load of them only to find out that they\'re ludicrously different scales
