I have some of the BS stuff. Its really nice, just hope to find time to paint them.

Anyway here is a site that has a scale comparison. ( Got the link from the forum of doom... ( heresy/hasslefree/spyglass and black scorpion forum )

Linky link link

Huzzah for the link! It\'s exactly what I was after. But bobbins to the obvious size difference! I was so hoping to include a few of the BS minis in my posse as they look so gorgeous. What on earth possessed them to choose such an incompatible scale???

Oooooh yeah! I got name-dropped :p lol

Although I see what you mean :|~
You could\'ve sculpted him a kilt lol

Like it all so far dude :D

PS. really like the heather idea :p

for a quite efficient and easy to paint red I often go for black undercoat, scab red - red gore - blood red - mix blood red/ some orange. It\'s not GD but it looks good enough for me, it\'s easy and it\'s fast/ straight out of the pot. I have used it on chainswords, powerclaws etc. you can see some pics in my gallery if you are interested in seeing how it looks.

hehe thanks manus but the whole point is I can\'t see it cos I\'m colourblind:( I can see that stuff is red if I concentrate hard but as for shading.......) I\'ve actually done it your way but using scorched brown instead of the scab red. We\'ll soon see if it works, fingers crossed

figured that was a problem, maybe you can see the graduation in the color though. And censing what was the problem I couldn\'t resist making that remark :D, hope you don\'t take that in a bad way.

Unfortunately it\'s the other way round. Most of the time I can see that it\'s red but I can\'t pick up the graduation. I certainly don\'t take offence my eyes suck lol

Wow mate, what a spectacular bunch of conversions, especially that unit of warrior priests. The naked scotsman on the other hand... ???

As far as dapples, I think in this case less is more would have been the way to go. Looks like you stipled the spots on, which doesn\'t look terrible, but gives the appearance of being overdone. Just paint small spots in a dark color and highlight them up just like you would any other piece on the mini.

Hope that helps mate.

I forgot to answer DaN\'s question about the heather. The bases (from Litkoaerosystems btw) start of with an all over coat of PG tips (PG only use the tips of the tealeaf for a smoother mellower taste, which gives no advantage whatsoever when used as a basing material lol) then a goodly covering of woodland scenics scorched grass and finally some big lumps of woodland scenics forest green clump foliage with two or three drybrushes of purple on the tops.
For all you people who don\'t have access to wild heather it doesn\'t look quite the same as the stuff you can pick up in your local garden centre. Wild heather comes in the form of a horrible scratty little bush with a nasty tendency to try and twist your ankles off if you try and walk through it:mad:
I\'ll try and get some decent pics next time I go home to the Peak District provided I can escape with both of my feet still attatched.

Even more progress and on the same things too:D I\'ve started painting the knight champion so feedback on the colourscheme would be appreciated:

And I\'ve also started some conversions based on the same idea using undead Grave Guard. So a big :p to Dec in the Cov GW who said it wouldn\'t work.

It did make me buy a pack of Grave Guard though, damn him for his cunning ruses!

The barding on the horse looks really good, I wouldn\'t touch that again. His robe is a little bland though, it\'s almost like a brownish orange. If that is the color you are aming for I think you should give it a couple of highlights more to make it stand out. If you are going for the red, as discussed earlier maybe a couple of washes/glaces of dark red would give it what it needs.
Would never have thuoght of using graveguard - but it works

Brownish orange wasn\'t what I was after:( I used snakebite as a highlight because that\'s about the only way I know how to paint red without it turning so pink that it\'s even obvious to me. As snakebite is also the end highlight on the barding it looks too similar. I try to steer clear of glazes when I can help it (unless I\'m dirtying up armour) so I think a complete repaint of the skirt is in order.

What I\'m aiming for is the same colour as the guy on the fronf of Mark of Chaos

How do I paint a redder red? I\'m sure I used to be able to do it ???

Hey you\'re right it does look like leather doesnt it. I actually had it in mind to be metal painted brown to fit in with the rest of the Sigmarite troops. I\'m not sure you can make barding out of leather, anyone any idea? I know shiny varnish is a bad thing but I was thinking of glossing up the brown plates a bit to make them look more metalic. I will certainly be adding a few chips to the paintwork as I get on with it though. More to come soon

My camera ran out of batteries and I can\'t find the charger, the Mrs\' laptop is busted so she monopolises my PC until it\'s fixed, my car\'s a bit knackered (which has nothing to do with minis but it is knackered all the same), I keep getting tempted away by all that fantastic Freebooter stuff that I got in the ME, I\'ve finished Uni finally so I\'m looking for a job  and .. er.. my dog ate it.

I\'ve pretty much finished the champion and I\'m now working on his mates so I\'ll hopefully get some pics up soon. I had to rework the army list slightly when I realised that I couldn\'t put Warrior Priests in with the flagellants but that does mean I get to do an extra mounted one  The heads for unit two ought to arrive next week and hopefully I\'ve scrounged enough bits so that they all have the right number of arms. The Greatswords will be an interesting challenge as I have no idea where I can get hold of 20 odd hammers that are the right shape (square ended not round) but I\'m looking forward to it.

Fun, fun, fun:bouncy:

Thanks for taking an interest BTW it makes a guy feel appreciated.

Right then I\'m back in business. The camera has batteries but I haven\'t been able to set up my stage so you are once again treated to views of the hobby junk heap that is my painting desk.

First up here\'s a pic of the musician for unit one. originally he had a horn from the chaos warrior sprue with the arrows removed but it didn\'t quite look fanatical enough. So I hit upon the idea of having prayer books instead of instruments so that the musician could bellow out inspirational passages from the Book of Sigmar at appropriate intervals.

As I was going along sculpting the armour on these guys I had this nagging feeling that there was something slightly off about the heads. Then in a moment of forehead slapping epiphany I realised that half of them didn\'t have any ears!!! So Ive sculpted them on as well now lol

The Luther Huss model is nice and all but he\'s not quite as good as the illustrations of him in the army book. I\'ve tried to give him a more hard bitten pose and also used the rear of an unarmoured horse to try to get him to look more like the book pics. The original left hand is still attatched to the hammer as I wanted to make sure it worked using an old LH I \"liberated\" from my mates bits box before I mutilated a pristine model. I\'m quite pleased so far so it looks like it\'ll end up being the final version.

Finally some pics of the mrs\' first ever efforts at painting even though i promised I wouldn\'t show anyone lol

DSC01118.jpg

Personally I think she\'s done a damn fine job but she\'s such a perfectionist that she\'s convinced they\'re crap. Hopefully I can convince her to do some more.
