I\'m just going to state, again, because I\'ve said it before....
Doctor Spock recanted his earlier works about not spanking children.
Did he ruin a generation? No.
What I find interesting, regarding children, is that we have hundreds...
thousands of books on how to raise them, which is far more than anyone had
fifty years ago. Back then, as I understand things, parents called \'Mom\'
for help.
Now, in all of these books, I\'m fairly certain that none of them have any
instruction that reads anything like \'Place child before tv/game system/computer
and hope they turn out all right\'.
I don\'t have kids. I honestly don\'t want any. I don\'t think I\'d be a good father.
But I do understand that children are an investment. Not only financial. People...
and by people, I mean parents... have to invest time, effort, and dammit, their
whole hearts into the raising of a child.
If they aren\'t prepared to do that, then I, personally, don\'t think they should have
kids at all.
But that\'s just one man\'s opinion.

Uhm... clearly you\'ve never heard of \"Baby Einstein\" before. You plop the little bastards down and BAMMO! They get captivated ant start learning about sign language, shapes and colors and such. It\'s awesome! It makes raising kids super easy!

I\'d rather actually have a child because I want to raise it, not have it to get the tax breaks and then plop it in front of an I.Q. rotting program like Baby Einstein.

But man, do you get some sweet tax breaks! It\'s like getting an extra paycheque every month! Totally worth having a couple kids just for all the extra booze money you get.
And baby Einstein doens\'t rot I.Q. dummy, it\'s got \"Einstein\" right in the title. Einstein was well known to be smart guy. Wouldn\'t you want your kids to be smart? I do, so I choose \"Baby Einstein\" to teach my kids. And while they\'re learning to be smart I can get a lot of beer drinking and video game playing done.
Sanctuary, it\'s clear you have a lot to learn about being a parent. I suggest you watch an informative program like \"Three Men and a Baby\" or \"Mr. Mom\" so you can get caught up to speed. If those are out, you can always get \"Daddy Day Care\" starring Eddie Murphy. That guy really knows his stuff.

i agree. media hype makes things worse. there does seem to be a lot of \'dumbing down\' though
i totally agree. i am against public smoking but there should be sufficient areas where people can smoke

some interesting stuff on here I think Scott hit\'s a good point.. These days we are all fed more information from around the globe and as it\'s the human tendency to concentrate and sensationalise the negative it is pretty easy to see all but doom and gloom in the world..
I don\'t wory about the current generation I guess 30+ is the age I always see as the current generation.. you know the ones in all the jobs that affect us all...
I do have concerns over the future generation. There is this whole thing going on where there is no consequences to any action. I\'m not talking beatings or kickings but something that instills discipline of some kind. It seems that as we go on in life the shit is rolling downhill and everybody has somebody or something to blame..common sense has been all but removed from society with guidelines and rules governing every aspect of life so that ultimately no one is responsible for anything anymore . sooner or later there will be no more excuses and somebody will have to stand up and take responsibility.
Hell the latest discussions about removing sports / PE from the national curriculum because it\'s competitive and can promote feelings of dssappointment and un needed pressure to those who aren\'t naturally gifted..??? what a pile of shite..
They\'re looking at removing tests in school for the same reason.... local paper here recently had a teacher who was in hot water for not following national curriculum because he did pop quizzes.....students felt they were being pressurised unfairly by these.. The teachers argument was it was just fun and a way to gague how well the kids understood the subjects .. there were no awards or prizes for success no pun ishment for failure. He just felt that the current processes of teaching kids practically spoon fed answers to maximise results over actual learning due to the benefits schools get for achieving results, wasn\'t great and that mixing it up with a fun quiz here and there livened things up and kept interest. Again crazy...
Life IS competitive .. always has been ..It\'s competitive in nature and at the end of the day we humans are only animals at our core. From the first day caveman A punched Caveman B in the face to get the warmer cave life has been competitive.
My child is in pre school / nursery currently .. Just turned four . There are 3 or 4 kids in the same group as him who are fairly fresh here from Rwanda. Now don\'t get me wrong Rwanda horrible situation and I am all for helping them out by providing refuge .
However these kids are a year and a half or so older than the other kids. They are physically bigger and they have no english. My son has been getting bullied. He had a footprint shaped bruise on his chest a week or so ago .. One of the kids pissed on his clothes while he was stuck in the climbing tunnel. and he has had several bruises cuts and scratches over the last month or so and has become more withdrawn than ever before.
I approached the teachers about this . First of all demanding why we hadn\'t been informed and then asking what was being done about it.. My son hasn\'t hit back because he knows it is wrong to hit the children at school and he must do as the teacher says... (that has been instilled upon him by me and his mum as parents at home) The answer by the teachers was that .. X X and X have a tendency to behave in this way it\'s not their fault they\'ve been through a lot.???? we have had a chat with their parents.
That answer is knackers so I have taken it further .. I\'m currently hip deep in allsorts of paperwork and seeing different people to find somebody who is wiling to deal with the situation . This includes people trying to arrange psychologists for my child.. Parenting classes for me on how to deal with a bully situation and meetings with several different authorities regards race relations... No One is taking responsibility. In my day it would have been sorted in no time by the kids causing the problem being removed until their behaviour improved. The authorities are trying to treat my kid like a complete and utter victim when all he has done is stick by what he knows as right and not hit back. I have no choice as a parent to teach him to stick up for himself .. wonder how long it will be before I am brought into the school for encouraging my child to fight back >????
I would never say that everything back in time was better it certainly wasn\'t . but There was a time when a little common sense prevailed and it would be nivce to see that now and again.

Yes that\'s a crap situation. I feel for you. My oldedst is in Pre-School as well, same age as yours.
I wish I ahd some benificial insight into a solution but I am lucky to have not had any issues like that yet.
I can\'t imagine cutting out Phys Ed from schools. Is that just an English thing? Is it a serious movement or just one of those things passed around?
