Excuse the sarcasm, I just think you\'re gonna be seeing an awful lot more Warrior Priests in the next couple of days, these new minis are awesome!
Anyway I\'ve been busy working on one, and I hope it has a few distinguishing features to make it stand out from the crowd a bit.
The inspirations should be obvious, the feet being lifted from Cheeba\'s awesome self-sculpt. It\'s the first time I sculpted bare feet, and I\'m pretty happy with them. Not perfect, but then again I\'m still very much a novice sculptor.
Be prepared for a ton of pics, I was taking photos every couple of minutes while talking to Glyn (Zaphod) on MSN! I\'ll talk about colors towards the end.
Up to this point I was working strictly with the metallics. The style was a modified version of Jakob Neilsen\'s metallic tutorial. I started with Boltgun Metal/Black Ink mix, then washed with Black Ink and Scorched Brown. Then I hilighted with Boltgun, and repeated the washes. I did this several times, slowly building up to a brighter silver each time. Occassional glazes of Tamiya Clear Orange were used as well from time to time.
Once the metals got closer to completion I felt like doing the base, I usually do the base about 1/3 of the way through a paintjob because I get impatient and want to see how it\'ll turn out
The gravel and slate were both drybrushed Scorched Brown, then Codex Grey, then Codex with Bleached Bone, and then with a little more Bone in the mix for a final drybrush. The slate was washed with a few layers of thinned Catachan Green, and the gravel with thinned Brown Ink to differentiate them a bit.
Next I did the parchments on the model. They were a pretty basic technique, going from Graveyard Earth mots of the way up to Bleached Bone, then with a little bit of white mixed in.
Next up, I did the skin! I used a slightly different technique than I usually use, why not try out something new once in a while!
It was Dark Flesh mixed with Catachan Green for a basecoat, then hilighted by mixing in my pre-mixed 1:1 Dwarf Flesh to Elf Flesh mixture. I love mixing pots, I have like 25 custom shades of Citadel mixes now Once I got up to the 1:1 mix, I hilighted with a tiny bit of Bone mixed in, and then one more layer on a few spots with a bit of White mixed in.
Finally (so far) the robes! They were done using the same colors I used on my Captain Jack Sparrow miniature, but with a very different technique. It started out with a mix of Scorched Brown and Black, then I mixed in some more Scorched. After that, several layers mixing in Snakebite Brown, and from there blended all the way up to Kommando Khaki. Lots of layering/feathering here
So what\'s left? Gold! The face! More parchments! Couple of leather pouches and the bird skull/spine on his chains... that\'s about it I think.
I don\'t have a terribly good reason for not doing the face and the rest of the parchments at the same time as the rest of the model... I was worried about the skin mix at first so decided to leave the head til last... and also I\'ve been holding him by the top of his head while I paint. I need a handle
The parchment, I honestly ran out of Graveyard Earth on my pallet and didn\'t feel like doing more basecoating before starting to hilight. Laziness wins from time to time!
Anyway I think he\'s about 5 hours in so far, he\'s going by really quickly by my standards. Let me know what you think!
