You just can\'t make this stuff up...

My thoughts... Is that slight NSFW? Surely not..

Oh. the story. Well.. I don\'t have any special feelings about it honestly. If he wants to have a baby and can have a baby he should have a baby. I would have a baby in the future if I had female internal organs, but I don\'t.

Personally, I\'m inclined to agree that the desire to bring a new life into the world is neither a male nor a female desire.

The ability to carry the child is obviously more limited, but the desire is a universal one.

I think that this person wanting to bear their child is a fine thing. One of the couple is getting to experience child-birth, which would, I\'m guessing, make the experience as close to \'normal\' as is likely, given their circumstances.

More power to them.

In this case it is a woman becoming a man to then marry a woman.. and personally I understand that quite well. :) But sexual preferences doesn\'t have to go with gender though.

What in it is immoral or unethic?

Thomas isn\'t a man... or woman... this is an actual androgynous person having a child is a little shocking on it\'s own. The child itself will probably be a little confused as a result of the strange circumstances it was born into as well.

It\'s just super weird!

That\'s the thing that I find strange. They keep saying that \'she\' became a \'he\' through surgery but that\'s not exactly true because she\'s missing some key equipment that pretty much identifies you as a man. Granted she looks pretty manly, but I think she may just qualify as a rather ugly lady with no boobies who is playing the part of a man..., but isn\'t fooling anyone when the lights go out.

The baby aside...this is an odd situation if you ask me.

I\'m indifferent to the weirdness, or maybe I\'m in denial, not sure there. But I would like to register my shock at the fact that he/she/it isn\'t the first to do this according to the article.

Anatomically Thomas has female reproductive organs. His gender is male. You can difference between the actual organs and the construction of a gender-identity. Meaning someone can feel they are a man but still have the organs of a woman or vice versa. What is \"feminine\" and \"masculine\" changes over time but you can look around and easily see that everybody incorporates what would rather be called \"human\" attributes more common to a certain gender. It all happens of course both through social upbringing and gene-coding.

An XX or an XY does not automatically even make one female or male in an anatomical sense. The Y cromosome contains a sex determining gene that triggers the growth of testes and the hormonal coctail that gives rise to a man. During that process much can happen and it does. One theory (oversimplified) is that the hormones doesn\'t come in equal bursts all through the feetus development and that gives rise to more or less female or male dispositions regardless if you got balls or not.

The child will probably have greater things in life to be confused with then if his father has the dangly bits or not. :) I don\'t believe a kid needs a mother and a father to develop normally but in this case she has it. I\'ve got a friend who became a girl during her early teens (before I got to knew her) And she\'s as much a woman as anyone else I know. She\'s just a bit tall, that\'s all. ;)

MPJ: I\'m also indifferent... maybe it would feel different if he actually didn\'t have any organs for it? Like I read that you in the future could have a baby in some kind of artificial pocket... can\'t remember how though. That feels wrong to me, even though I don\'t condemn it at all if the baby\'s okay.

 I say more power to the couple, kids are pretty resilient creatures and it’s no more stranger then kids raised by gay/ lesbians couples 99% turn out fine and the world will not end over these two.

Sorry Ian but I\'m having to take issue with you on this.
It takes a lot of courage to pursue gender re-assignment, courage to face discrimination and \"finger pointing\", courage to face the unknown of extreme hormonal differences to your body and radical surgery.
Despite the operations to gender re-assign fom Female to Male the nuturing need of the human being never really changes. And as someone who cannot have kids, I understand the need to be a parent.
Having a kid is an immense undertaking and I think that having already demonstrated the courage to gender re-assign they will be fine handling the difficulties.
Plus as Donna has said it\'s no more stranger than a gay couple having and raising kids.

meh. i can understand how he considers himself a man now? he\'s got more hair but still has female reproductive organs. i have a basic outlook on these things. i look at anatomy to determine sex. saying you are male when you have female bits doesn\'t seem right to me. thats like me saying i am studly and buff despite the physical evidence to the contrary!

my biology teacher did a doctorate on this. apparently jamie lee curtis is xy. it\'s just part of a condition that doesn\'t express the genoptype.

as for this whole debacle, i\'m not worried, i don\'t see it as bring much different to two homsexuals (o whatever sex) raising a kid. as long as they love him/her, i\'m glad.
