You never know what you're gonna find!

Ya search the internet enough and sometimes the door to opportunity opens just enough to let you peek inside.

As most of you know, I'm not only painting commissions, War Horse Miniatures is officially a business. So I go through the routine periodically of checking various things at SBA.gov and since I'm a "woman-owned business" there can sometimes be opportunities with grants.gov and a whole host of things. I also research art grants and business opportunities, the whole nine yards.

But I've got to be careful too as there are more ripoffs out there than things that are helpful. The biggest thing is read the fine print and research! But as I was looking through potential art grants and things like that, I discovered Kickstarter.

At first glance it seems like a Facebook for art entreprenuers. You post your project, what sort of funding you need, and you start building a fan base. Fans make pledges to support your endeavor. If you reach your goals - the pledges pay up. If you don't, then no one is charged. Anyway, it looked intriguing but I was kinda wary - as I am with almost everything like this - I've got to be.

But I saw someone local I know from my years in the Writer's Guild down here. Huh - he's still working on that project - good for him. Then I discovered a "games" section...and look what I found....

Very interesting!

Hey, at least I know it's legit. ;)

Uh, Kath? Didja miss the Zombie kickstarter that CMON did? You'll be surprised at the power of that one.

Somebody please post a link? I'm on my phone (and happily hours from a computer), but I think I'll be able to pick out the sound of her jaw hitting the floor!

here's the zombicide link:

and here's the alabaster one

and a useful link that tracks the progress of kickstarters

I'm totally sold on BfA, but havent pledged yet as I not sure how the shipping works. Once I know, tho, I'm in with bells on.

And yeah, I agree with kath - kickstarter is a pretty funky idea.

Yeah, you seem to be a bit out of the loop here. I'd had my eye on Kickstarter for about a year, but my lack of US citizenship held me back, so went for IndieGoGo instead.

This is mine, which is also legit!

So sorry I'm behind the curve here gang. I did see the threads with Kickstarter but since I have no one to game with, I didn't go into detail with them and thought it was an "event" to "kickstart" or "kick-off" the new release. And in my defense remember a couple of months ago I was working a job that required so much overtime I didn't have a chance to even glance at CMON for three months, and to top it off had to sue the :curse: bleeeep - bleeeep - bleeepity - bleep to get the damn OT owed to me - followed immediately by ZOMG! ReaperCon is when????

I've been a little distracted...sorry. :D

Thats alright :) You're back in the loop now, amongst friends (who don't try to rip you off). Back on topic - what do you think of the Battle for Alabaster minis? I'm pretty sold on them, myself. I'm feeling a bit jaded with warhammer 40k (which I've played for many years) but the shiny-shiny totally-not-gothic style of BfA really appeals to me right now. That, and the strain minis fill my need to paint gribbly horribleness to a tee.

Miniwargaming also recently had an indiegogo campaign for their Dark potential game that reached (if my memory is correct) $80 000cnd. 4X there target goal. I would probaly get in on sedition wars if I had the funds. They are probably the most talented group in the industry.
