Your best Vacation/holiday ever......

So after spending the best vacation I have ever had in London over the lst couple of weeks I\'d like to know what yours was. What is the best vacation you have ever had?

London was absolutly perfect. I couldn\'t have asked for anything to have gone any different that it did. It was the perfect blend of lazy-ness and activity, romance and friendship, rain and sunshine. I got in just enough touristing to balance out the time spent in the room. And it was wonderful having someone from England show me around instead of doing the tourist company thing. I\'ll get picks up as soon as I get my computer back. Should be early next week.

So what was your best ever vacation?

I almost feel obligated to claim some tropical locale. But truth be told, the best was a lot closer to home.

About five years ago, my wife and I loaded up our truck with camping gear, a couple coolers, our German Wirehair (only had one dog at the time), an old barbecue, and a map. We spend two glorious weeks kicking around the wilds of Alaska with one short jaunt into Canada... woohoo Dawson City!

We camped where we wanted, painted (we brought both charcoal and watercolors) when the mood took us, and hunted for several of our meals.

It was a wonderful trip and we have a ton of stories from it. What an adventure. =)

As far as out-of-state vacations go, I have only been on a few short trips to California (Disneyland twice, Sea World once, a few random \"lets-go-to-the-beach\" kinds of trips, and 4 Games Days), and one trip to Vegas. Never been on a plane, never been out of the US.

Lame, I know!

The best would probably be one of the camping trips I took with my grandfather. He is missed.

It would have been the last holiday i took which was 4 years ago.

My wife and i had just finished two years of work in Japan, and we decided that before we went back, we would drive up to the North part of Japan (not Hokkaido though) and just tour for two weeks. My wife collects Japanese wooden dolls (kokeshi) and so we spent the two weeks going around to the various artisans watching them work. There is one particular artisan who my wife really likes the work of, and i got him to make a special one just for her.

I reckon it\'s a close fight between:

1. The honeymoon with my missus: spent 6 weeks in Europe, trekking over Spain and Italy. Beautiful scenery in some indescribably lovely locations - Monserrat, Cinque Terra, Segovia ...

2. The first overseas birthday I celebrated with my then-girlfriend (she\'s my wife now). Spent a weekend at the Banyan Tree Resorts in Bintan, Indonesia. Talk about being waited on hand-and-foot! With a small swimming pool for a bathtub, private jacuzzi, king-sized 4 poster bed ...

I can\'t decide! Can I take both?

Best holiday (vacation) ever was probably my trip out from the UK to the Black Rock desert in Nevada in 2000 with my friends to try and break the European amateur rocket altitude record :)

That was an insane trip... seven guys in an RV in the middle of the most beautiful barren and dessolate place on the planet... we met some very cool people, were followed by a TV crew (who were also great guys)... did what we set out to do... launched a dirty great rocket, and got it back in one piece... drank vodka from urine sample tubes at 3:00am under the most clear and star filled skies I have ever seen... and generally had a great laugh.

Close second would be my honeymoon in Thailand, spoilt only by the fact I was stupid and went snorkling for two hours with no sunscreen on my back and got 3rd degree burns from the sun which left me barely able to move for the last six days of the ten day holiday :-(

Won\'t do that again in a hurry.

My best would have to be last year, when my dad took me snowboarding to saas in switzerland. He promised me when i was a bout 7 that he would take me another 7 years later he actually managed. We made new friends and had a great time without my mum, bro and sister (it was nice to get away :D)

Slightly spolied by me developing an abcess in my sinsus\'s and that thing where your skin tissue swells up (cant remember). THen having major surgery and spending a few weeks in hospital lol

hmm, one of two for me, either my honeymoon in the maldives on a tiny island (well they all are actually!!) with the dolphins, turtles and things or ibiza 93, sun coming up at the cream closing party after dancing none stop for about 8 hours

You visited London and didn\'t look me up Liz... shame on you.

My best holiday... maybe finland last february trekking into the wilderness. I slept under the stars in a shelter I made myself, fished through a hole in the ice for my dinner, drank from a lake and spent an entire evening watching the northern lights and listening to wolves howl a few valleys away.

Perfection!

Erm its a tough choice, New York when i went in \'06 it was just the most amazing few days. To see so much culture in the different boroughs and too actually see a place that still baffles me today, need to go back.

Another good one was a trip to Italy (rome, florence and a few places in between) with college and i also turned 17 there. It was great to have mates around with me and the weather was great along with awesome sites and great food (though i was actually sick on my birthday due to a dodgey bit of food in an italian mcdonalds LOL)

You meet a lot of strange people in a youth hostel lol

1) My honeymoon to Lake Louise in Alberta. Not only were the mountains nice, but the time we spent in Calgary was a blast too; they have the biggest game store we had ever seen, and I even got to do some patch trading with some of the local cops.

2) My mom and I took a road trip from SoCal to Seattle and back. We went where we wanted, stayed as long as we liked, and never went down the same highway twice. The Space Needle for breakfast was unbelievable, and I even found some out of print RPG\'s in a Pike\'s Place bookstore.

I would have to say our cruise to Alaska. Besides having the comfort and elegance of the ship, scenery could not be matched. Plus everywhere we docked we met really friendly people. We would always ask and go to eat off ship where the locals eat and where never let down. Wonderful! Plus having 24 beers on tap doesn’t hurt.

I haven\'t had a proper \'vacation\' since I took the wifie to Vegas for her 21st birthday, she just turned 31 last week so the math isn\'t difficult.

I have been to London three times and loved it each time but have not managed to take the wife there yet and likely will not for a few years to come (till the kids are old enough to come without to much inconvenience to us or stay at home by themselves).

For now I\'ll live vicariously through y\'alls vacations. :drunk:

my best holiday was probably \'Peak 05\'. it was basically a huge week long scout and guide camp with people from all over the world. met some great people and did some gret things. AND it didn\'t rain!

Best vacation ever... hmmm...

I have to put my choice on my trip to L.A., back in the early 90\'s.
I was chatting with a friend on the internet, and she was bummed out, so
I asked her if my going to visit would cheer her up. She said \'Yes, but what
are the odds that you\'ll come this week-
end?\" To which I replied, \"100%\"
She didn\'t believe me until the next day, when I gave her my flight number and
arrival time.

Had a wonderful time, and three months after the trip, her mood boosted immensely,
she met the man she married a year later, and they\'re still together, now
sporting four kids, seven pets, and still making all their friends sick with their
gushy happiness.

That\'s right. To meet your soul-mate, you have to hang out with me for at least a
weekend. My track record is proven by more than this one incident.

I\'m a mortal Cupid.

That does indeed sound like a cool holiday...except for the Finland part, had you gone to Sweden instead though.... :p

My best holiday ever was going west coast to east coast of the US by car (mostly) in 2001. Almost two months and 13 states...it was just like in the movies.
