Here is a tought. SENMM is in one sense misleading. NMM is a technique that was originally used to simulate metalic effects without using refletive paints. It can simulate any type of metal from dull to highly reflective.

SENMM is at first glance an extention to NMM, but in fact really is a technique to simulate any reflective surface, chrome metalic being the most obvious.

I don\'t have a mini example of this, but I have a real life photograph of this in one good example of a non metal application where SENMM would be perfect ... glass gazing balls.

I\'ve never \"felt\" it the way that SENMM is an advanced NMM technique. The term SENMM just says a bit more precisely how the NMM technique was used. SENMM = sub-NMM. If there existed a term called \"DNMM\"(dull NMM), this wouldn\'t be an advanced technique either but also a sub-category. Just my view.

I agree with Ritual. For me, Arjay has always been the undisputed master of SENMM. I personal favorite of his is:

There was one other example that I\'ve just spent the last half hour or so trying to track down, but with no luck. :( It may be gone now. :( I swore I had it in my favorites. I also swore I had a copy on my hard drive, but no luck in either place. I don\'t remember the artist :( but it was a witch elf done mostly in purples if I remember correctly and there was a reflexion of a city skyline in all of the armor. Very very cool.:cool: Wish I could find it again.

Hey Dauber, do you mean this one?

I like SENMM the best when it\'s done in black or other colours, like Pete\'s succubus, as opposed to pure metallic reflections. Dunno why, I think it\'s just because it\'s easier to get it to look right when you\'re not worrying about the sky-earth colours in metallic chrome, which can throw things off if they\'re not perfect. Arjay has nailed \'em, however.

:flip::bouncy::flip: THAT\'S the one!!! Thanks, Nelson! It\'s been driving me crazy. Tried searching for just about everything except \"succubus\" and just about everybody but \"Pete the Mighty\".
BTW - Nice to see you back nosing around more often, Nelson. Seems you were missing for a while.

I would also agree that Arjay is the master but I dont agree that it only suits SciFi. This is one technique I want to learn for my brettonians. polished metals look like chrome and there is NO other way to represent it.

I think the commun mistake is to do SENMM on weapons. Swords are made of iron, steel, bronze, ... but not chrome. I\'m surprised we haven\'t seen the technic more on motorbikes (Space Marines, Orks, ...).

It is able to polish metal so it reflects the surrounding. This can be seen on some large axes, for example.

By the way, this is some SENMM:

Nontheless it\'s a trashy painting.
