Well, got the predominant color sketches down. Say you know what's hard to photo? Red, white and yellow. Good thing these armies don't have too mu- aw crap :mad-tongue:

That's a lot on your plate at once, those squads are starting out nicely. And I have noticed that yellow is hard to photograph, haha.
I love your shuriken base, it's very creative.

Loving the transition on the sm weapons great contrast there, like flameon's terminators. Just something to think about. I wanna see a back pack you have to show a back pack its a key part of a SM!and great for contrast. I know the weapons are overspray and know they need to be fairly uniform with the rest of the army, you could shade the shadows with a little black and purple wash through the AB its a great little glaze option.

Good greens to buddy I find this part quite exciting seeing the base coat go on and getting the shadows and highlights going.

Top job on a smooth ab job

Its always the red that gives me problems photoing but now that you mention it I think yellow is a b@^@^ too. Looking good Zab.

Thanks all! Man that read is over exposed. You can't see the dark to light transition at all. These have to be done by the end of May o_O Good news is they are for table top play - but you know i am going to push them as close to display as i can. It's a sickness really :)

Thanks! The red is gonna get knock the F back down (part of it is the pics right now). Here is a video that is the best example of thinning for a glaze that I have found yet. For those of you who are like "yeah but how thin do I make the paint and what do you mean by unload your brush first?" This clearly illustrates what a glaze is and is not in a very visual manner. Took me years to figure it out so hopefully this will save some of you that time :p Skip to about 2:55 if you want.
Cheers,

nice video, altough I think he overthinned the paint making more work for the same result.

And altough it won't help you here, but lately for things like that nose/coloring of folds I've been using pigments/pastels more and more. They are quite transparent and the transitions are soft without a lot of work.
But as said, to darken a whole SM it's not feasible, here remains the good ol' glaze (altough if you like to experiment, then 'dusting' them with an AB from 'far' with high PSI could help both by being thin AND fast, but I'd thin with some retarder to stop the paint drying mid-air)

No prob Krule. I like it because it's very clear and language is no barrier to what he is showing. Yeah MAX, I think you are talking about the "strongbow technique" with the AB. Mr Lee explained it a bit on his blog. I've yet get get the balls to try it, though i am thinking of using some of the scale 75 inks and that technique from below to tone down the red and bring back the shadows on the marines...

No no don't dust them from a far, that's a learning technique, An ab with low psi16-20 is what you want and treat each surface as you would with a brush.
The video is perfectly clear and shows all steps, I agree with his dilution I guess it depends on the quality v speed you want. Good points and a better video than the one I put on Khonners wip.

Are you going to add a little shine to the shadows too? Maybe some satin varnish mixed in? Looking forward to your next up date and look forward to seeing what you do.

I may just do all brush work since i broke down all my AB stuff and just want to get rolling. Besides once you get your glazes thin enough they dry super fast anyway :p Digga, don't drink the GW medium. That shit is expensive - you sip it. If you want to drink medium i suggest liquitex or golden...

This n' that. NOFC marine's head done and testing out some new paints. The head took about 1 hour, and Chopper took about 45 min. More later. Back to painting...
