Zab's Damn it to hell! WIP

You know what's funny? This....

Here is a quote from me in my last blog post: I'm becoming kind of impatient with army painting so I think the DV set will be my last army project. Actually, this spring I'll be ditching most if not all of my terrain and armies for more space for display minis.
And here is a little bit of an email I got today: Hi, Neil ~Thank you for volunteering your time and artistic talents to the NOVA OPEN Charitable Foundation (NOCF). We are excited to invite you to "The Macragge Project," which will include an Ultramarine Army, Tyranid Army and Battle for Macragge terrain.

Of course I'm going to help out! Charitable hobby projects are my favorite thing to work on, and strangely, motivate and inspire me like nothing else. I really thought they forgot about my offer. Oh fate, you and me are gonna have words some day...

what are those dwarves? they look a bit like rackham ones, but they never made resin dwarves.

Zab: Alice turned out to be wonderful and I quite like the dwarf-goblin too, even though it shows that it's a faster paintjob (and the models themselves are far from my favorites)

When you speak to fate give her a piece of my mind to. I would do it myself but I'm scared of her. Glad to here you got a response on your new project. About the dwarf and goblin how long till you have that video tut for it? Not trying to rush you. Just curious and excited about it.

It'll be a while. I am fumbling my way through a new version of Adobe premier and my editing skills are rusty as hell. Pile on my perfectionism and it could be a few weeks ;)

Sorry Canny,

I am the one with similar dwarves, I have the Meteors. How many do you have? Maybe we can send Zab a couple and all paint together?

Ugh, that was a PITA. Even after all the HD shooting, editing & rendering it uploads in stunning SD?! Thanks loads YouTube. More like: YouSuck. ~sigh~ Welcome to my first and last video tutorial. So not worth the effort. Blech -_- It'll hit my blog at some point, but for now I'm done with it.
Bah! BAH! Onto bigger and better things ;)

For a first try it seems darn good. Although you might have some hi standards because you are, like, a TV producer... Hey, at least you got a tripod.

Also is that you talking? "I tend to work from the midtones - now I am going to have to kill you..." Dude, you sound like a like a voice actor! I think more talking would be awesome. Just watching painting is tough.

Enjoyed the video Zab. I have been messing around with some of the secret weapon washes and I might just pick up some more. Nice work..

The video is good, and for me it shows the options for HD, so it doesn't seem to be lost.

One question about your painting: did you learn to paint in a GW store? The way you did the highlight looks about the same as they teach it in the store.

Thanks all. Demi, I totally fall into my "presentation voice" when I have to record audio. Khonner, I'm glad you liked it - they are fun washes and I still think it will take me a while to get used to all their properties, but this exercise definitely sold me on their versatility. MAX, Yeah that is weird - now the HD options are there. Well, at least that 4hrs of HD rendering wasn't for nothing! I spent a long time using GW brushes and their techniques, in fact I actually broke out some of my old GW brushes to use on this video (cause I didn't want to ruin good ones with those washes seeping into the ferrule), so maybe I fell back into the groove (OMG - GW brain washed me, I pick up their brush and go back to their style!)? :hypnotized:

Outstanding zab. Thank you for the video. When dem said something about your voice I was thinking movie announcer guy. Lol. Don't give up on the vids this one was great. Also just so you know... Lightning is a killing word, and my new quote. You Canadians have great music.

I swear that video didn't take up all my time. I mean come on, what kind of producer would I be if it was a 3 week struggle on that only? The stomach flu sure as hell slowed me down though. Anyway I have a few things coming down the line. Both will draw inspiration from these:

For NOVA I'll be working on Telion and couple of 5 man squads of scouts. Scouts are one of my favorite GW kits. I am almost ashamed to admit it, but in 20+ years of 40K obsession... I have never painted Ultramarines! The other project is a dio- vignette, based on Helion Rain. A fellow blogger who is on hiatus, Hot Panda, sent me a box of scouts a while ago and I want to make this for him and send it back as a thank you and a 40k and the internet miss you kind of gift. Here is where the base work is right now...

I am only using 2 scouts and a lictor from eBay for this as 5 scouts made it into a very big piece that would be hard to ship without being damaged.
Another scout will be used in this piece inspired by the recent short story Culling The Horde about some Crimson Fists and a scout who are still clearing orks off their home world 3 years after the Rynn's world invasion. They'll be standing on this broken aquilla in various states of battle weariness.

But that's way in the future.... Fun to organize the bits for it now though. Also, Digganob will be shipping me his awesome custom sculpt of his squig to paint too so that and the NOVA project get first dibs then it's onto Helion Rain and I bet that will end up being all my projects for the summer at the rate I paint :p

Ooh, Ultrasmurfs! As A Belgian, I'll be curious to see how you treat those quaint blue villagers.

Don't be ashamed of never painting ultra marines Zab. I never have either and for that we get a pat on the back from Gork and not a fist stomp. In all serious though its setting up to look like an epic scene.
