So I was thinking you could take this a step further and add another alien to make this scene into a triangle of love. First step add the Predator ( in full on stealth mode of corse) and he has been hunting the lictor and is using the scouts to lure him out. Add three red dots to the lictors head and DONE! Haha. Sorry my head is a strange place in the morning before coffee.

Ugh, Finecast. My old nemesis, we meet again :disdain: Sorry for the crap pics - iPhone so, ya know...

I swear it took me almost 30 min to get just Telion's head prepped today on my lunch break
Still, really fine details on his face. Those would have been lost in metal casting for sure. Stayin' positive on this project - it's for charity!

I need to break down and buy a Finecast model, just so i can feel a part of the brotherhood that despises it! Lol.;)

Yessss! Be amazed at how it can bend without breaking. It's not plastic! It's not resin! It's plesin! It's rastic! It's the future like you're holding a CD-I or Minidisc in the nineties.

So I am starting to understand why commission artists either refuse to work with Finecast or charge a premium for having to work with it. It will likely take me as long to prep a squad of 5 scouts as it is taking me to prep one Finecast Telion. This was a very clean cast too. The main problem was in where they placed the channels for the resin and how to cut it away without damaging the mini or it's details. I actually had to get out some of my sculpting/craving tools and even then I hd to do several washes of thinned liquid GS to smooth things out.

Still, I am really looking forward to slinging paint onto this guy. I think it's one of GW's cooler sculpts in recent years :)

I was about to ask what was so bad about fine cast minis but I am getting a clear picture of what you mean now. I feel your pain down here. But as you say you can't spell paint and all ;)

Oh yeah that doesn't look too bad for Finecast. Diga, I have some from the first round and they look like swiss cheese. Plus teh resin is soft, Like you can dig a finger nail into it.

Zab that green stuff job looks darn good. Looks like you got some skills dry walling your basement! Is that regular GS or the liquid stuff?

Looks like watered down liquid GS. The bane of my existence. Now matter how smooth you think you got it, prime it and then start applying the BC and you will find lumps. Alcohol on a q tip swab will help reduce this, as well as some 600 grit sand paper. But yes, liquid GS is a good choice for fixing the tiny imperfections that come with fine cast. I actually enjoy painting a good fine cast mini. They are very high detail.

Yep it's a lot of watered down liquid GS, 400 and 600 grit sand paper and then I give it a few passes with some nail polish remover with acetone and a firm sable hair brush, then one last quick brush down with just water to make sure the nail polish remover doesn't damage the resin by staying on there too long. Smooth as a baby's butt. 8+ hrs of work, but this stuff really needs it.

Uh oh......you think fine cast are bad your gonna hate me. Lol.
Hardly. Unless of course, you happen to be a multinational company with the resources to do resin casting flawlessly, but just want to cut corners and maximize profit. THEN I might feel a little hurt :sidefrown:

Well all right then. Do you ever try magic sculpt? It's a 2 part putty that is sort of water soluble and (usually) drys hard enough to sand.

Yeah i sometimes use something similar called apoxie sculpt. It smells disturbingly like tortilla chips, but sure doesn't taste like 'em  I used it on Alice's base and sleeping chibi as well. I really love it because it dries rock hard, but while it's drying it holds texture well and can be smoothed/thinned with water. The only reason i don't use it here is that with finecast you need something that will come away easier than the resin when you sand or else you'll end up sanding away all your detail trying to smooth out the filler. I've actually done that once on my Dark Eldar. THOSE we're God awful first run finecast minis.

Ah, I see. Now I just need to figure out how to do the reaper bones and I am good to go :)
