It makes me a dead man, its just a matter of time really. On reading: That's a good question! Anything by Aron dembeski bowden is great or you could start with a collection of short stories or even a few of the Quick reads you can download to you mobile device from the black library or apple. I think they are like 3.99 a pop.

Thank you DEMI and Zab
After a quick search, this sounds just right "Eisenhorn, Warhammer 40,000s answer to Sherlock Holmes and Judge Dredd rolled into one."

Family vacation last week was awesome! Except for the announcement of layoffs where I work. May not have a job by the end of summer if I'm in the 5% they are laying off here in Toronto. Either way, it's time to look for work elsewhere me thinks ;) I still got a little hobby time in though. Bases progress... Now I am onto the long task of filling and sanding. Actually, it won't take that long i am using super lightweight poly filla so it dries very fast and sands very easily :) Pics or it didn't happen, right?

Those are looking awesome! Yay basing party! Also, sorry to hear about the work thing. Hopefully you won't get the axe. :/ on the other hand they say changing jobs is usually beneficial.

Sorry to here about the job stress Zab. I know thats never easy sitting in the wing wondering and waiting. Hopefully it will all work out for you in the end. As for the bases, super awesome. I am so envious of everyone elses basing abilities, but truth be told I need to buck up and start practicing and making some of my own.

Thanks man. It's all out of my control so best i can do is look for other work regardless of the outcome and stay the course with hobby and the rest. Worrying won't change anything :) Bases are fun. As an exercise just build a bunch to get comfy with it and then you'll have them sitting around for minis as you painting them up. Massive voodoo did a great article about just using common household items for basing that was fun to read and full of cool ideas.

Basing continues. It's beach season here so it continues slow, but even on weekends at the cottage there is opportunity for hobby. I pulled some roots and twigs from the garden at home and some stones and a nice coarse sand from the beach. Also found a pretty rock - might make a necklace for the little one since she likes it.

Got a bit more work done on some of the bases. Bone litter on the giant squig base to give him some scale and some texture to the foam and smoothed out the stalagmites and stalactites. Filled and smoothed the stone on the RT base and Demihuman's dwarf base plus secured the dock to the wall. I also sculpted the water around the rocks for Canny's dwarf base.

Stopped by the new location of one of my LGS. They seem to be cutting back on hobby and have more room for gaming. Not sure it was a good idea to tip the scales that way, but I wish them luck. Picked up some paints and a bones mini from the clearance bin for the little one to paint while we we're at the cottage.

Now she wants to paint miniatures like daddy - I won't lie. I'm pretty thrilled. I was really impressed with the minimal prep and decent quality of the bones line so i picked up a few of my favs off ebay. I want to try out James Wappel's techniques ever since I got his KS dvds and these seem like good "learnin minis" what with the grab 'em and paint convenience.
Next up is to take all the sticks and rocks and roots and put em on the squig base. The smoother rocks will go in the stream bed and the roots will get a little trim with the scissors and random broken and stunted trees will be clinging to the cave exterior with some roots. Should be fun.

Hmmm... Actually, that's quite a bit of progress :curl-lip: One thing I need help with: Any one know where I can source some 28-32 mm pylons or construction signs? Maybe a good tutorial for making them?

Cheers!

Looking good! The stalagmites look really good on the squig base. Pretty sure that is going to be epic! As far as teh signs go i think you are going to have to build something. There is TONS of rail road stuff but it is never in the correct scale. Plasticard and sprue?

Im so excited for you and your new painting buddy! I look forward to the posibility one day. my little one asks for a hold and looks pretty intensly at it before she says WOW! Pretty special for me.
The warf is intreaging looking forward to seeing that unfold, Cave enterance is cool too, like the sign I think it will make the squig look Mega big!
Im interested to see the end result of the waves too they look like a good start, heaps of energy there.

Duno about the pilons, I know there are some bridge looking plastic "things" but as demi said maybe not the correct scale, could be worth a shot.

Thanks all! I'm having lots of fun with the basing, but I am kind of getting excited to start painting all these projects!I guess pictures of what I am looking for would help eh WGS? I fear I'll have to make the signs, but I could always take a stroll through toys r us tonight too looking for construction play sets ;)

I'm looking for stuff like this...

Toys r us would be a good call for quickness otherwise scratch built I'm afraid relatively easy construction, would suggest 0.5mm sheet and 1.00mm square and round rod for the frames. If you have no luck at TRU let me know and I can do you a quick SBS

Thanks man! The hardest one for me would be the pylons as sculpting those would be hard to get symmetrical and looking "manufactured" ya know?

I find if you want to make a piece where it has sides of the same structure, making a paper drawing of it and making each side on the same template can give you the desired results
