Yeah she's a total nerd and I'm proud of that! She got lazy this year and failed her first test (always shocking for an A student) and I was like see? no studying = fail. Life lesson: you aren't naturally good at everything, so study. She was like are you mad? I was like yep, but not because you failed. I'm mad because you didn't try. Failure is how we learn and if you try your best and fail that's okay and you know you need more practice, but if you failed because you didn't try that's not cool and i'll be upset. Never fear failure - fear complacency!

This is the best thing I've read in a while. I stress this to my 7 year old daughter all the time. You could not have said this better.

Shrinekeeper I hear ya, mine's 8 end of the month and she has so much anxiety about failure. Its so weird cause we've never yelled at her, but she holds herself to such a high standard that I have to talk her off the ledge quite a bit
