Zagstruk and the Vulcha Boyz

A bit of a follow-up to what I\'ve just posted; I did a really rough doodle overtop of one of the side/profile pictures to get an idea of what I might do. Unfortunately, I don\'t have my tablet, so forgive the general roughness of it.

Basically, I have a decision to make. I think the bomb might be sticking out a bit too far from the torso. To remedy this, I can dremel away at the underside of the bomb some to hopefully make it contour to his back better and sit closer to his torso. It\'s a precarious thing to be dremelling - I only have one, and if I botch it, it\'s gone, \'less one of you lads has a spare and is feeling generous. I could try to dremel a cylindrical recess into his back and seat the bomb in there, but the underside of it is irregular and probably wouldn\'t sit too well. I diagrammed this out a bit:

The dark grey/black rectangle is just meant to be a placeholder for where the stubby wings sit. Light brown is where I might be running some straps. The one on the right is what I imagine it would look like if I recessed the rokkit into his body a bit closer. I know it\'s hard to tell, honestly. Do you guys think it\'s worth the extra trouble?

I prefer it closer to the body actually. The whole thing is looking awesome though! I dunno how the hell I missed this one 0.o I been hooked since the Stompa!

A singed coat would be priceless.

To answer your question I think moving the rocket inwards will help the model look a bit more realistic, maybe that\'s not the right word but having parts sink into each other could help the model look more solid anyway.

I second (or is it third) that. closer good! remember to have the collar \"flapped\" up wheres, as air is getting under it. Plus I love the idea of his coat being singed or maybe so steel plates riveted to the tails, as a good bomber jacket is a hard thing to find

I have been fighting myself as hard as I can on this. My urge to shift to a different project is strong, but I really want to get something done, too, so I\'m trying to force myself to drive on through this a bit more. I\'ve tweaked and modified a lot of little things, so I thought I\'d share.

Changes: I\'ve dremelled the grot bomb just a tiny bit to sit closer to the body. I\'m happy with where it is right now, I think. I also finished the glyph and added wings onto the bomb for a little extra steerage. An afterburner exhaust was capped onto the end of the rokkit, as well. Ork glyphs were added to his legs as shin armor. I\'ve tried sculpting pants a number of times, but I just can\'t seem to get anything I\'m happy with, as I keep pulling the sculpting off. I\'ve just put a new layer of brownstuff on around the hip area that you can see in the photos - once that dries, I\'ll try sculpting the pants over that and see how it goes again. I don\'t know if I want the pants to be tattered around the upper leg or simply short-cut - Zagstruk seems like the kind of Blood Axe who would take care of his clothes, though.

I need to add the harness to hold the rokkit onto his back, but I can\'t think of anything I\'d be happy with. Emulating the Stormboy Nob detail is one thing, but I don\'t want to put the harness sitting that high - it would cover the \'teeth\' on the grot bomb up. I need something slightly lower-slung. I\'m considering ditching the metal support brace appearance for something that relies a lot more on straps to harness the grot bomb to him, though I haven\'t entirely thought it through yet. I\'m waiting for a good idea or two to hit me.

Why dont you have a strap that comes across his belly? That seems kind of orky to me...make it look like a seat belt. The old lap belt kind.Other than that, looking good as always

Keep it up James! This is looking GOOD!!
comments: Have you thought about maybe going with shorts, an not pants? That way you show off all the work that you\'ve put into the legs. Also that way the pants wouldn\'t get into the grub\'ens of the legs. two I kinda liked the gliff with the one wing myself, but whatever. Hows about a backpack frame similar to the ALICE frames that the US Army uses, with a couple of ratchet straps holding the rocket in place. Simple, and you could use your mastery of plasta-card and tubing to create it, Bonus!
Please don\'t let this project fall to the wayside. It\'s coming out better than you think! So keep it UP!

SON OF A !#^$@^%$! GODDAMNIT

It appears that GW is not only producing a Zagstruk model, but a kickass Zagstruk model, rendering this work useless. :crybaby

My only comfort is that I was kind\'ve close sort\'ve. But damnit.

Although gw\'s version is really really
nice

I do like yours in its own sense. If anything, if you havent learned from the proscess, be it from your abilities or from new techniques, then all things you do are useless. Personally,i feel, if you\'ve lost that aspect, you mind as well stop now
cheer up, yours looks cooler anyways

Personally I\'d finish yours, one yours is damn close to what they have in the works, two who knows when that\'ll be out, and three every sob will have one of the gw zags but only you will have yours, and as far as similarities yours is right on the money which is a testament to your ability so get-r-done! plus that one looks like he\'s just jumpin offa somethin, yours he\'s swoopin down to kick some arse.

How is this possible...??... Did you used some Concept Art from GW...?... The Similarities cannot be randomly... I mean, look at his weapon... and in general...

What is this all about...?...

James finish off yours please. Like a couple of people have already stated yours will be unique, like the rest of your army. And as a bonus you have saved yourself 15 to 20 bucks on buying a new model. And if you ever do buy the GW model, you can all ways use this model as a \"little Zagstruk\" (on a higher flying base) which would still add allot of character to your mob. Keep up the good work.

lol I do think it\'s kinda funny that on the GW version Zag would have to throw down his sword to use the control lever :p

I really like yours. GW\'s is really nice too but I almost find it a little too bulky in the lower torso area with all the random technojunk... Definitely finish yours, like others said it\'ll stand out from the others and there\'s something to be said for the creative process.
