Hill Giant
This is probably the biggest non-terrain miniature that I've painted. It's around 90 mm tall (I need to actually measure this one of these days.) The figure itself was a bit of a pain to put together; I think it was in 8 parts, and the hands didn't quite fit on the arms so I ended up bending the weapon a bit, which I think makes it look fairly vicious. He's got this sack on his back and for some reason I wanted to paint it like he just took some poor family's tablecloth or picnic blanket and he's been carrying that around. So that explains the red and white stripes. I ended up trying a flesh wash in the end and I feel that it screwed the whole figure up so I had to go back and fix a ton of it. So I think I'm done with washes on skin at this point, and I'll just keep the layering. Near the end of this figure was the first time that I tried a wet-palette (thanks to dnaGRIM's article) and I'll be trying that a lot more in the coming months. This was finished in March 2003.
