Energon

These were inspired by the Energon monster description and image on page 168 of WotC's Manual of the Planes. The bluish one is the "xeg-yi" from the negative energy plane, and the yellowish one is the "Xag-ya" from the positive energy plane. These are supposed to represent glowing balls of energy with tentacles. I did the original sculpture in greenstuff in early 2003 and these are resin casts painted in March 2003. I learned quite a bit about sculpting and mold making with this figure. While pulling out the original sculpture out of the mold, several of the strands broke off from the original sculpture, so I've had some problems with getting the greenstuff to firmly attach. I sculpted a reaper-like "cauliflower" base but remounted the figures on 25mm bases so they fit in with my other figures. This is the second (and third) time I tried to paint lighting effects. (First time was on a Darth Vader miniature, but no way I'd ever post that pre-CMoN figure... Ick!) This is also the second time I ever tried using a Wet Pallette, and that made the color blending so much easier. I also did a bit of drybrushing on the static grass to make it appear to be a similar color to the glowing colors. For experiments in both sculpting and painting, they turned out quite well.

Great stuff! Peter you have a great talent for making your visions reality. I think the lighting is really good on the orange orb, but maybe a lighter tint of blue would have served your lighting effect better on the second one for better contrast. Just this newbie's opinion.

Excellent job on these little guys.... I like the angle of the main body, its very dynamic, and actually gives the impression that the tentacles are struggling to hold the ball of energy aloft. Also, nice job on the lighting effect as well. Great work!
