Legolas

I painted this one just for fun and for to try oil paints. So it is my first serious trial to use oil paints for painting miniatures and I came to the conclusion: Oil paints are great for larger models and busts but I think they are not very useful for small 28mm sculpts. The hair, the arrows, the bluegrey shirt, the face and the golden filigree is painted in acrylics and the whole rest is painted with oil paints which was very funny. It took me over 50 hours to get it all clean and I never will do a 28mm sculpt in oils because I find it very hard to paint clean with this sticky, thick paints, lol. I know it is usual to thin the oil paints but actually it takes a lot of layers to get enough depth (strong highlights and deep shades) and so it makes no difference if you paint 50 hours with diluted paints to get enough depth or 50 hours with not diluted paints for to get it all clean, lol. Neverthless it was a good experiance and I can recommend oil paints for larger surfaces (at 28mm sculpts) or larger sculpts because blending is pretty easy with oil paints. But for 28mm sculpts I think acrylics are the best choice. Please check out my homepage for more pictures of Legolas. All comments are welcome :-)

A great job on this miniature. It is really hard to paint, because it is far smaller than other GW miniatures (from Fantasy and 40k range) and reaper minis, etc. The cloths have a really great color with deep depths and good contrasts! I like them very much!!!!

Hy, sieht klasse aus, schlicht, bestechende angenehme Farben und trotzdem sehr geniale Kontraste. Gruß Knegge
