Female Mage with OSL Effects

I painted the figure on the left in late 2006. I painted the figure on the right in early 2010 to prepare an example for a painting class on source lighting. I think the colour choices and highlighting levels convey the illusion of source lighting much more effectively on the newer piece, but interestingly enough many people who've seen them both seem to prefer the colour scheme of the earlier figure.

I agree with popular opinion. I think the reasons why most people prefer the older paint job is the fact that the blue and white pop better on the dark hair and cape than the yellows and greens do on the blonde hair and lighter brown cloak. The newer figure is technically better, but the color choices on the older figure are better.
