The Madness of Kel’est

This mini was done as a pre-production commission for Action Games Miniatures as a publicity stunt entered into a contest at the GottaCon convention. the timeline was strict and I didn`t have quite enough time to finilise the entery to a meticulous level, but the goal was achieved and the mini got a lot of questions into the judge. I`ve since put in just a touch more effort into the model, brining the highlights up another step or two for some more `pop`. The model is an exceptionally interesting figure to paint, the contours are not what you`d expect, and choosing where to place the highlights is a bit of a challenge. In some areas the highlights are simply freehand onto a flat surface, or going against the contours of the sculpt. there are so many options when painting this figure. I wanted to harken back to reptiles like dragons and dinosaurs with this figure, and knowing that the factions future scheme would be very dark, in shades of black or blue, i wanted to echo that. I painted the model with a grey underbelly and a blue that transitioned darker towards the spine, which further made the paint a challenge. Highlights are shaded downwards, using more of a shadow effect on the underbelly for contrast than highlights.
