Khador Kherchev the Terrible

This was part of a commission for a client. The project brief was little to no battler damage and weathering, and to have the scheme be set for an off-white blue or green snow cammo. I didn`t like the idea of the green so I went with a blueish grey, highlighting up through an off-white into white for the extreme highlights. He also wanted the mini to be positioned leaping off a wreck marker and have a very animated pose. The model was hacked apart and pinned in several places, the hip joint was also sculpted a cup out of putty to add extra strength. The arms on all the models in the battlegroup were done using a compound pinning method, where a central, longer pin was put through a shorter hollow pin. This achieved 2 things; greater strength by increasing the mass of the pin and glue surface area, as well as allowing for all the arms to be identical in length a lot more easily, by keeping the outer pin the exact same length. The challenge on this commission was certainly contrast in colour, so I washed all the metals with a weathered down sepia to give a bit of warmth, and made the bases a very red earth tone. I also threw in touches of gold and made the copper a bit more towards the red end of the spectrum using GHW`s creaming bell as a first mid tone. The client has since come back to me and would like to add the weathering and battle damage which I`m very happy about - I think the models will look WAAAAAY better with some more contrast and dirt.
