I like the decorative work you've added to this, the swan is particularly nice. A bit of shadowing around the eyes in the eyesockets would help him a lot, he's got a real starey look right now. Also the head of the staff looks a little sloppy, though it might just be glare. People are probably marking you down a bit because of the base being unfinished.
