Gandalf the White on Shadowfax

When I first got this miniature, I knew some work had to be done to it. Some of the hooves were not sculpted correctly and his mane and tail needed to be fixed. After everything was corrected to my approval, the real work started. I never really painted a completely white figure before. Shadowfax was actually kinda easy to paint, exept when it came to do the blacklining. I had fun doing his muzzle and hooves, since they weren't white. *smile* As for Gandalf, there were a few small problems. Since he had different layers of white clothing, I had to decide which layer to have what undertone. His skin also proved to be harder to do than I had first thought. I did my best to make him look as close to Gandalf as possible. At the tip of Gandalf's staff, I added a pearl-like finish to give it an extra glow. As for the hardest task on him, it would have to be the blacklining...yes, the evil blacklining that is needed to bring out the many different layers of white...and then fixing the white where I wasn't careful enough with the blacklining...but that's painting...*smile* I started him about a week before Fall-In so I could enter him in Game Workshop's Lord of the Rings Painting Contest. He was up against some good competition and I was actually surprised that Gandalf on Shadowfax beat out two of the other entries that had my praise and attention. The grand prize was a Forge World display model of Weathertop. Now my next project will be painting up Weathertop and the figures that go with it.
