Infinity Magno Vignette
Some time ago I decided to paint a series of miniatures — each as a gift for somebody who influenced my hobby a lot. This is fourth miniature in "Exclusive Gifts" project. Each gift includes a mini, a 'vignette' (small terrain piece for it), and backgroung for the mini (written by me as fanfiction) on a pack of small stylized cards. And everything comes in a custom gift-box, so when you open it your jaw is meant to drop. Here is Exclusive Gift #4 for Guillermo Hernandez, the most philosophical wargamer and painter, with whom I've spent great time in Galicia, visiting Corvus Belli HQ. Guillermo is a guy with brilliant brains, who can use and explain you complex wargaming tactics, and a minute later you can be discussing philosophical matters and Dostoevsky's literature. We met at GenCon 2014, where Guillermo explained to me how to get to a bar to hang out with Corvus Belli and some cool Infinity people. I had no mobile internet (so no map), and barely understanded his accent first time. He definetely thought I'm very weird when I used my smartphone to make a photo of a google map on his smarphone... Still, that evening I found that bar and we met again, which led to me having another good friend in international Infinity community. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Exclusive Gift #4 Magno Guillermo 'Magno' Hernandez is a well-known person in the community. Corvus Belli even made a 'Not Magno' miniature of him, and also created a character in the fluff. The character's name is (not surprisingly) Magno, you can find him in the very beginning of the N3 Core Book. Magno is described as an ex-military smuggler with ties to Black Hand. I imagined him as a very combat-oriented character, probably with some black market combat augmentations (definitely Bakunin-made). So I started with quite rare Max Scorpio miniature as a base for conversion. He is stylish, he doesn't look like a soldier from estabilished faction, and has an appearance of a bounty hunter. I added a hand from Keisotsu (Missile Launcher one) and a scratchbuild an elbow blade (Deus Ex style). The blade was made from a paper clip filed to a desired shape. To add more interest to the scene, I dropped him in a strange location, apparently infected by Shasvastii. The scene assumes he just killed a Gwailo guard, and stays on alert for more. I painted him in mostly red-green contrast (but keeping colors muted, so he doesn't look like a Christmas giftbox). The next big task was painting the vignette in different light conditions: Magno is standing under a light source, but the rest of the scene is painted in a twilight blue-green hues. The funniest part (but not an easy one) was creating a fallen Gwailo and blood drops on the floor. I tried to make them look as realistic as possible, and the blood mix I used is the best I achieved to date. I'm very happy with the end result, despite the fact that the vignette was a rush before GenCon 2015. Guillermo called me an "incredible human being" for this, so I guess he is happy too :)
