i dont see a problem with the bright green paint scheme, in fact, i even like it. besides, all great loyalist chapters have green schemes! dark angels, salamanders, raptors. i said all great loyalist chapters because i hate blood angels and space wolves. keep it up with the green marines. the only gripe i have is the base, i understand that you have an oceanic theme, but i think it would frame the model better if you used a nice neutral brown. try it some time, the base makes a big difference as to how the model looks.
I always get that about the scheme for this army...here's the whole fluff background, including the reasons for the eye-zapping colors:
Index Astartes - The Aqua Marines
HISTORY:
Over the centuries, the Aquamarines have fought an outmanned and seldom-published war on the frontier of deep space against the eldritch and mysterious Necrons. The rest of the Imperium, and indeed other marine chapters, have little or no knowledge or experience with the gleaming mechanized warriors and their insectoid companions, but the Aqua Marines know them well. While the Necrons’ motives remain entirely unclear, they apparently have some sustained interest in the Aquamarines’ water-covered homeworld, Vinuvus. In fact, the Emperor has an interest in the homeworld as well, but only the High Lords of Terra have any inkling why. The chapter has occasionally participated in coordinated attacks off-world, most notably joining with the Crimson Fists and Black Dragons in staving off Dark Eldar offensives, but largely is responsible for holding their frontier and protecting the sanctity of their own planet.
HOME WORLD:
The Aqua Marines hail from Vinuvus, an enormous oxygen-rich planet that is classified as an Ag World. Vinuvus is more than 300,000 km in diameter, eclipsing the size of some small stars. Along with its parent solar body and 32 satellite moons, Vinuvus comprises the entire system; there are no other planets. The planet’s surface is 98% saline water. The vast planet-encompassing sea achieves depths of up to 20 km. A few islands are active volcanoes, and many sub-ocean masses are characterized slow lava eruptions. There are no significant dry continents; hundreds of small islands and atolls dot the planet’s surface. There are two significant permanent island groups, both of which are populated.
Few citizens or soldiers of the Imperium are even aware of Vinuvus or its system, although export food merchants are acquainted with the planet’s stamp on crates of frozen ocean food products.
The Aqua Marines are well-established in their homeworld, and are highly respected by the sparse population. The oceans of Vinuvus contain innumerable species of crustaceans, insects, fish, amphibians and rorquals which occasionally threaten the population, and although AM forces rarely intervene by "monster-fighting," their occasional heroic efforts have achieved legendary status among the indigenous population.
COMBAT DOCTRINE AND ORGANIZATION:
For the most part, the Aquamarines fight battles in the coordinated, flexible manner that has come to be expected of the space marine armies of the 41st millenium. There are several notable exceptions, however, which result in the Aquamarines often fighting with far more scouts and battle brothers, and fewer vehicles, than other chapters.
First, because Vinuvus is an isolated homeworld without industrialization, the chapter can not produce tanks and transports on-world. In addition, the dearth of land mass and extreme slopes and elevations on the islands results in scant need for heavy vehicles; and sensitive machine parts constantly succumb to the oxygenated air and salty water.. Necron incursions during the last century have limited supply connections even further; the Imperium is hesitant to send mass-produced armor to Vinuvus; the danger of having supply fleets intercepted is high, and the chapter appears to serve its purpose well with a limited inventory of tanks.
Some Land Speeders have been customized by the Adeptus Mechanicus to perform under water; their exhaust manifolds have been reduced to drive shafts for turbine engines, and they function as highly maneuverable submarines. No speeder is amphibious; they are either traditional or modified, though crews are trained to pilot both. All space marines and terminators in the chapter have had their power customized to allow them to function under water for brief periods, as well. Tanks, scouts, bikes and most of the speeders are limited to ground-and-air duty only.
The Aquamarines chapter tends to fight missions which call either for assaults and bloody combat, or guerrilla sniping, cat-and-mouse missions in dense and unusual terrain. Because of the need for maneuverability and the chapter’s combat doctrine, the Aquamarines field significantly more scouts than other chapters. In fact, the Third and Fourth Companies include three scout squads, while the Seventh Company is comprised entirely of scouts. It is rumored that Vindicares occasionally accompany the chapter in coordinated battles.
The main chapter color is a deep turquoise (or aquamarine) blue, offset by a secondary chartreuse color. Special units (including terminators) are sometimes bedecked entirely in chartreuse. The chapter uses luminescent algae in mixing the paint for their armor; as a result the bright green highlights can be blindingly reactive in certain light conditions (high gamma worlds, night fighting missions after explosions and searchlight flashes).
GENE-SEED:
The Inquisition has had some difficulty tracking the historical genetic links of the Aqua Marines gene-seed. The chapter was certainly created after the Second Founding. The chapter’s librarians claim that they are the product of one of the numerous Ultramarine splits, and the chapter colors (turquoise and chartreuse) are very near to the progenitor chapter from Ultramar. Aquamarine iconography closely resembles that of the Blood Angels, which has cast further confusion on their origins.
BATTLECRY:
"Cleanse with the Fury of the Sea!"
He's a dance-dance-dance-dance, dancin' machine...
Actually...your blending and shading skills are quite good. The colour scheme is a bit neurotic...but I'd be happy to face these guys on the field.
Lighten up people...this painter is more skilled than alot of you!
