Master of Puppets conversion

This is one of those miniatures I was really excited to start, but the more I painted it the less I liked it... At one point I wanted to just scrub the whole thing. Normally I would abandon it to the "dread shelf of half-painted miniatures" but this was a commission, so I needed to finish it. (And since it's for the guy who originally got me casting miniatures that I sculpted I felt that I really owe him.) Anyway, I unfortunately can't say that the miniature conversion was my own idea -- the client requested the conversion. I did sculpt two little puppets to fill out the base a bit more; they're on the back side because they're not as good as the Rackham version. Anyway, I cut off the original sword and replaced it with the puppet-covered staff. Pretty neat idea. It took me about two months to do, which is pretty embarrassing. I guess that's what happens when you get into that painting slump. Anyway, I finished it up in the beginning of April 2004. I think it's the second Rackham figure that I've finished (I've got about 10 on that half-painted shelf...) and I'm surprised that I'm pretty happy with it in the end. The metal is more experiments with my half NMM -- a mixture between silver paint and black/white colors. I switched back to GW's metal colors from Vallejo's metal colors after two years of being only Vallejo. I think I like the GW metallic paints more, but otherwise I prefer Vallejo.

A really intelligent conversion. What did you use to make the staff (which looks like a gibbet) ? It has a really effective deep woodgrain on it.

Very nice, Peter. Sometimes clients will ask for things that really force you to push the envelope. That's the cool thing about comission work.
