All I'm doing here is expressing the way I see a lot of 'modern'/abstract art. Just trying to see how others feel about the subject. By NO means am I saying I think it's all junk. I've seen some very moving works of abstract art. I have also seen a tendency in the visual arts to put up with a lot more hooey and actually give it high accolades than what is tolerated in other art forms. The story of http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/type1620.htmlThe Emperor's New Clothes comes to mind.
There is some stuff that I think has evidence of talent and knowledge to be able to convey some very sublime emotions.
I think there is a big amount of it that's poorly done stunts - Piss Christ, Jackson Polluck's dribbles, 8 burned logs lined up the floor (was in a gallery where the curator gushed over this and other 'pieces'), a guy who throws paint into the blast coming from a commercial jet and it flies back onto a canvas.
Makes me imagine of a guy who come's onto stage in a tuxedo, approaches a beautiful grand piano, whips out a sledge hammer and pounds the piano to a pulp. While you have someone expressing their emotions and it's a musical instrument he's 'interacting' with doesn't make him a musician or what he's produced music...........................this is just the way I see it.
Again, just trying to see how others feel about the subject..............fighting will soon commence?:curl-lip:
