They won't enter any homes. This is just the fantastic scaremongering saying that the Uk is a 'nanny' state.

i heard something like this happened at a football match were the supporters had been supplied with orange overalls etc they were banned from entering the grounds to see the match unless they took off the articles in question. its legal for the management to do this apparently. i think it cost the company providing the stuff a fortune in useless advertising.

As far as I know, as long as it's private property, they can do what the want and admit/chuck out who they want. It'll get to the point when they are shooting themselves in the foot though...

There was the same kind of by-law passed in Vancouver about posting advertisment and protest posters. Everyone here raised a stink and only once did they take down a poster which made the news.

As for the Flame being behind a fence, total agree. With the amount of idiots out there, how long would it be for a drunk to climb it and get 3 degree burns and them sue or some protester to deface it. Vancouver lost count how many time the Olympic Countdown clock was vandalized.

Ah yeah I hadn't thought of the protesters that will innevitably turn up with the intent to ruin the olympics and get as many stories as possible of 'police brutality'.

I'm all for the law if it stops idiots protesting.

It was a dutch football match, and the dungarees had a huge advert on them. Because the company wasn't one of the match sponsor, they thought they were taking the piss a bit.

Good try from them though!!

Old Ben Franklin didn't have to deal with idiots that would place a cup of hot coffee between their legs, get burnt and sue for 6 million dollars because Ben assumed the person could feel the coffee was hot and their crotch was not a good cup holder.

1) I didn't "make up" the quote. It is quite well known and cited frequently actually.

2) I hardly see how preserving Liberty can make one a slave.

3) I also don't see how preserving the rights of sponsors is a valid reason to vacate privacy and human rights. And if you want to present a pretty picture to the world, don't negate people's right to protest. Just designate areas where it is allowed and areas where it is permitted. Giving the police the right to enter people's homes to confiscate items seems rather excessive.

Sorry if I offended you by offering an alternate opinion. I just find it pretty scary how easily people will give up their freedoms in order to avoid minor annoyances. And I certainly wouldn't single out the British as I can point to my own country's "Patriot Act" as an example of excessiveness.

The powers are aimed at those selling counterfeit goods mostly though could in theory be abused by those in power. A bigger worry in my opinion would be the possible hijacking of the games as a protest platform for radical british "muslims". Apparently there will be the largest mosque in britain built within sight of the olympic stadium. One can only hope that this will be used for worship by true muslims and not become the headquarters for organised civil unrest under the guise of Islam. I myself am not muslim, but having lived in a multicultural society for most of my life I would hate to see a religion hijacked for a small minoritys disgraceful beliefs on a global stage.

Quite the opposite.
Ol Ben said you could be a slave to the government with security or a free man and not rely on the government for security. I prefer the latter.
