True Scale Space Wolves, Fluff Accurate Models and Rules

Wow....so GW's miniatures don't follow their own fluff?

I guess I didn't realize the Space Marines were supposed to be so much bigger.

Is it more of a case where they (the space marines)are scaled right for 28mm, but the 28mm 'humans' have gotten scale creep-happy?

Regardless, this is a very cool project. I plan on following along in bliss!

It's more a case of GW never keeping to their own fluff when it comes to scales. Just look at Epic, which people use for "correct" measurements for titans and the such. We all know a space marine should reach a titans knees right?

well, might be fun to be able to play epic without microscope :dazed: lol.
seriously, ive never played epic, but maybe they should have excluded infantery units entierly in that game. the scale is just too small.

First of all I would like to say: wow... big difference in the look of the forum... WTF happened overnight!? I am a fan of the RSS thing! I think I liked the old look better though.

Now that's over I would like to point out: it's not that GW doesn't keep to their own fluff because they are negligent or something, it's that scaling up the models and making rules that would be "fluff accurate" would severely hinder the balance of the game, not to mention their sales.
Since 40k uses "true LOS" and base size to determine a great deal of things, having regular space marines on a 40mm base and being as tough as an APC would make it so that armies of 10 or 12 marines would be common, meaning that sales would drop dramatically (normal armies of space marines can be 30 or more models) not to mention that it would piss a lot of other players off- particularly if Necrons were fluff-accurate... who seem to just kill everyone and everything whenever the show up in the fluff.

Well, it's been quite difficult to get the pose right and it's still not absolutely finished... but here he is, I don't have a name for him yet and there are a few things left to do, namely the backs of the legs, and I need to fix the sand flocking.

Sorry for the fuzziness of pictures 1 and 3... I took them quickly before class.

The head is tilted to the side as if the Wolf is looking out of the corner of his eye, don't imagine him looking straight forward. I may need to adjust it a little bit to make sure he's looking at the Catachan but that's part of the polishing process.

What about hair? I can't decide if I like him bald, or if I want to sculpt some flowing hair like his brothers.

Axeman is on his way, stomach and shoulder pads are left. Unfortunately, I only have enough parts for 2 more wolves. After that I might have to resort to painting (GASP! SHOCK AND HORROR!) as I have not yet found a job to finance the last 11-ish Wolves.

Very Nice! I'm going to have to go for a few more dynamic poses/scenes with my Wolves!

Are you going to hit the back of the calves last? I've been filling that part in before wrapping the thigh - Do you find it easier to do the thigh wrap first?

How did you secure the bolter to the backpack area? I've been looking for a spot to stick extra bolters and the way you went looks pretty cool!

I don't see the point of doing all this conversion and cutting for static poses! :smile-big:

The thigh/calf order is interchangeable in my opinion. They're both time-consuming,:waiting: and a bit of a pain,:curse!: but definitely necessary:eyeroll:. What I tend to do is get as many of them done at once as I can and let it dry, so I can just do the fun stuff after that.:brushwave:

The bolter is attached in the crevasse between the vent and the main body of the backpack. Just push them against each other and slide it around until they fit. It's a little astounding how well it fits

Well I put it up to a few of my friends to see if stabby man was better bald or with hair and I was outvoted. So bald he is. That's the end of this update cause I was a huge slacker today and did nothing, I feel bad enough about it to go out and do some work at 10:00 at night.

The smilies are fun now! :silly!:

Ahem... pardon my insanity. My little brother wants the sorcerer to have those big tall horn things on his head like most sorcerers, so I have to figure out a good way to make that now, so my plans are getting pushed back a bit. After that I am going to FINALLY finish axeman, and I started a bit of work on my Lone Wolf with Wolf Claws. He's gonna be fun. I was also asked by a fellow member of CoolMiniOrNot to make him a true-scale Dark Apostle! I'm looking forward to that as soon as I get the bitz I need.

So I worked and I finished Axeman minus his base, so I can't really get any good pictures of him cause he won't stand up on his own. But I also finished the spell I was working on for the Sorcerer.

Here it is:

I decided rather than having him shooting a bolt of lightning or something I would, at the suggestion of my room mate, model it more in the spirit of a command spell or a non-line-of-sight spell. The plan is to have the whole hand glowing orange, purple or blue.

Thoughts?

Final projects and Easter happened. I liked this thread too :p I promise it will be revived soon. I just need to make it to April 30th and then I have two months COMPLETELY off. Well... almost. I am going to be learning to program as well, I need to have developed the skill to a workable level by July 12th in order to start a game project that will hopefully fuel my modeling habit for the foreseeable future.

Anyway I've got a few things to share with you once I get a chance to post regularly again: a fellow CMONer asked me to make him a Dark Apostle, I have two wolves that I have finished, but not had time to photograph yet, and I've chosen which wolves are going to make it into the Golden Demon. Not that I can paint well enough to win, but I'd like to show off the sculpt at least.

Thanks for being patient... I promise to have some cool stuff going again soon.

Ok. Classes are over, summer is here! Plenty of time off, and all that!

Unfortunately I have no money left, so I am selling a bunch of my stuff on eBay (various bitz, some of my old models, etc etc.) in order to put gas in my car. I'll also try to get a part time job, but since I have to move away half way through the summer... it seems unlikely that I'll be able to get one.

Anyway, this leaves very little room for new purchases... so I have to rely on my back projects, and they are many. I have Wolves to finish (regular and truescales), Imperial Guard, some Orks, and loyalist Alpha Legion. I also have Dark Elves and Chaos for WHFB. I'll probably sell the Dark Elves- if anyone's looking for some, let me know! The Chaos and the Guard too if I really have to.

I also have another project I am working on. As an aspiring game designer it is my job to make games, and that is exactly what I will be doing during most of my free time this summer, I am meeting with my team tomorrow so we can work out some kind of plan, so I'll have a better idea about my free time after that.

I'll post something interesting eventually (maybe even something to do with Truescale Wolves!),

Well... I've been thinking and I realized that I have over 250 models to paint... I figured I'd get that down to double digits before I buy another $135 worth of models (10 more truescale wolves)

Fortunately for me, I get to make one more truescale marine to send off to a fellow CMONer! He is going to be a Dark Apostle the pictures below are very rough:

The Dark Crozius needs to be given some more details, I'll probably add some neato spikes and... hopefully something else... I'm not sure what yet.

I'll post more pictures as the project goes on

Ugh... I haven't been able to get any work done recently. Work is really getting in the way of my more important work :p Anyway I hope to have the Dark Apostle finished this weekend and then I'll post some pictures.

After that this thread is going to be inundated by stuff that isn't as advertised... At least until I have less than 100 models to paint (undoubtedly every one of them is going to be a guardsman... for some reason I hate painting guardsmen). No one knows when that will be. Although I am really getting geared up and excited to paint myself some fantasy Chaos Warriors!

Sorry for being a slacker, I'll get it together eventually. Until then this thread may lie dormant.

PS. Here are some tasty treats to hold you over until I start realizing modeling is more important than work:

another possible pose for the Dark Apostle, here you see him on the base I'm hoping the client will like, with a rough version of the crozius (another view posted below) as well as his shiny Dark Halo which adds quite a bit to the sheer bad-assery of this model if I do say so myself.
