Multiple, fuzzy, exhausting entries

Hello folks and struggling painters,

I really get p...sed, seeing stupid, overexposed, fuzzy pictures of lower tabletop quality (surely subjective) worked on the assembly line. On that toppic, it strikes me hard to stay objective, when it comes to voting.

Please let me now, what do you think of anybody, who is exhausting putting new entries in one single session.

  • Should there be a dayly maximum on pictures (qualitiy of any kind)?
  • Should there be a higher dayly maximum for supporters (to whatever reason)?

TIA,

Regards

Agreed. All voting is in some way inherently subjective when you come down to it, no matter how objective one aims to be. But up to a point the scores on CMON are supposed to be subjective, because it's about is the entry cool to you.

I don't see why not. It doesn't have to be set low enough to feel punitive, but limiting it to maybe five or six wouldn't be much of a hardship.

Sure; if a limit is set for non-subscribers it's another plus for those that do that they can submit a higher number per day if they wish.

Well there are several points of view here:-
1. These are photos of models and paintwork that people are proud of. And despite the fact that You or I may not like them, they are someones effort which they want to share and gain comments. Hopefully these comments are intended to be helpful, like the comments you provide.
2. Voting is subjective. It is your opinion and no one elses, but I understand the draining feeling that the 3208th Space Marine in a row creates.
3. As much as Painting models is a skill set so is taking Photographs. Not everyone has the abilities, knowledge to paint a 10 Scoring model. likewise not everyone has the ability or knowledge to produce a High quality Photo. While there are articles on Coolminiornot about getting the best out of a camera, not everyone has read them or has applied the techniques. Similarly not everyone has a high class Digital SLR and must work within the limitations of their camera, BUT (again) unless you have the knowledge or experience the limitations of a camera become a handicap. Learning to adapt to work these limitations into a positive result does take time and an interest. (I'm fortunate in that I've been a photographer for many years and understand what needs to be done. Having said that I still struggle to get a picture of my minis which I am satisfied with).

Please let me now, what do you think of anybody, who is exhausting putting new entries in one single session.

Well as one of the people who approve images I feel kind of qualified to answer this question.
There is no upper limit on pictures, nor should there be. If someone has 200 images to load so be it, the caveat to this is that we tend to limit the multiple views of the same miniature to three in a row, where we can immediately identify them.
Personally I try to advise people who "Bulk load" lots of miniatures into getting into the habit of putting up smaller amounts over a few days, this helps them get a more balanced appreciation from the gallery audience. But if someone has placed a large number of auctions up, or a large number of links to an auction then the images are going up.
You must also take into account the fact that not everyone will have constant access to the internet. There are still people who's access is limited either through Parental Control, Shared Equipment, Work Limitations or via an Internet Cafe. Bulk uploading is for them the only means to share their work.

TIA,

Regards

I never post this thought since it usually never falls on the right eras (the ones who are guilty of it)...

"If the photo looks fuzzy to you, in your camera, on your computer, after you've uploaded it and seen it on screen... WHY do you think it won't look fuzzy and out of focus to us?"

and I'm not talking "a little out of focus" here. I'm not complaining as loudly as I agree completely with Dragonsreach. I also empathize with Dunkle Zeiten, Looking at 30 fuzzy images in a row is pretty tedious and puts me off voting for a while too.

I have a quiet rant then remind myself they're enthusiastic kids who're unlikely to maintain interest for the hobby beyond the school holiday anyway! Give 'em a break & vote appropriately for as long as you can stand, it makes a nice piece popping up all the more rewarding :) Once you're drained, just switch to a 5+ filter, after all you've done your bit working through a batch of rougher subs for everyone else. If CMON wants to maintain its position as the internets largest grouping of painted minis I guess it can't be too picky about submissions ;)

I think adding the video to the comp. subs page was a neat move. I'd like there to be an auto pop-up for any users first five entries that takes them through some gallery "etiquette", dressed up as a "how to improve your score" kind of thing. Crop, montage THEN post! Perhaps a link to a locked sticky here on the Forum. It could also include the image restrictions (I think the FAQ is still out of date). Max 600 pixels wide to avoid the enlarge button but wider is okay, can't remember limit. Any height, Max. 1mb. Remember to title your entry & spelling it correctly means it'll show up in searches for other users, you do want your work to show up don't you? A little introductory text can be helpful, whether "This is my first ever mini" through "I tried NMM for the first time" to "Golden Demon UK 2020 Unit Silver". Using "Golden Demon UK 2009" in the title and then it turning out it was just entered in the comp but didn't place smells of false advertising to me. I disapprove :shouty-ranty-man:

The Gallery is an odd place though, sometimes it's a blast but there have been periods where I've sworn off it completely :) Take it too seriously at your peril!

Cheers, B.

If you think the pictures or figures are shit, vote them down. That's why we have a voting system :)

Nothing against that in particular, but wo has time to see that many photos. I browse only the daily sorted pictures, I don't go for random anymore. IMHO thats the reason why most figures stack at a rate time of 30 or less even when they are tokk competition since last month.

Great idea, now I don't have to feel guilty voting "1" for exactly that what I feel when seeing that.

What happened with "uberdark"???, victim of censorship? oh please CMON, we are adults, and we can take that.

It's true, we're not cool enough for him any more!
I spend most my time now, sticking pins in a Mr Bobby doll hoping it hurts him in some way =(.
