Hi uber, the clay is called super sculpty. stuff you need to bake in the oven a little to harden, but you dont need to hurry anything. great for scratchbuilding but i doubt it will work superduper when modding minis (?)
anyway, some updates! the guy is baked and "saved", i went for a traditional ork headpiece, "just" have to scuplt a skull on top of there! also given him some nice tooth implants, my employer would be proud! :D

time for another update then!
fixed both the arms, skull on the head (3D skulls are not so damn easy as 2D!), also redid the buckle at the front as the old one pretty much sucked..hmm..

Beautiful skull. I agree, they're hard in 2D or 3D, but you nailed it. New buckle is much more orky. Looking good!

yo folks! i believe my first sculpt is officially done, at least to 99% :) made the teeth of 80% milliput, 20% greenstuff. gave me a damn hard time! milliput at his lip are just miscolouration by the way. hope you like him!

Well done Skel :good: Are you going to paint him? Will he be hitting the Gallery in both bare & burnished states?

I'm suprised you didn't carve the teeth out of wood or plastic. Did you sculpt these outside the mouth & then glue them in or just over pins inside?

Are you enthused enough to do something of your own next (as opposed to a GW Orc I mean) or perhaps some nice miniatures rather than another bust? :D

The light in your photo looks cleaner than usual, any chance of a shot of the DFB bust (which I notice was in the Top Last 7 Days, well done guys :golf-clap: ) with this background?

Cheers, B.

cheers B, well at least ive trained a lot of sculpting milliput and gs, man i hate that stuff. next one is probably going to be more a one piece in super skulpty.
think i going to panint the guy later on, first i hope to cast a few copies, lets see how it turns out! next thing i have planed is a napoleon-ish freeboter ork. orks are very newbie-friendly i believe, cause nothing has to be perfect; nothing is supposed to be perfect!

cleaner shot = lucky shot! :D

Nice job Stephan!!! That hair may be tricky to cast though!!

Dont be too quick to dismiss epoxy putties in favour of the clay!!! If you do get some SS Firm and decide to move over to it, you can use Procreate putty which is grey in colour so you don't get different coloured areas (did this myself today on the cyborg). Milliputt is great to, check out the materials Freeman uses for his sculpting which you will find is mainly milliputt! Cant be all that bad to use given that he has been in the top rankings of this site for so long!!!

And I congratulated you on getting in on the top twenty again in PM, but I'll say it again anyway - great job!!! The photos you did show Thuggorre off really well and I couldn't be more pleased.

this turned out abosultely great. I cant wait for you to slap some paint on this thing then it will really come to life. I really like the particular angel of the last pic in your update because he looks like a total lunatic, as an ork should!! The napoleon style ork sounds like an original idea, im assuming that project will involve a ton of sculpting also. What scale do you plan on doing him?

thanks guys!

@dfb; really you think the hair will be a prob? maybe i can edit it a bit to make it more friendlly, maybe it need some more 'fluff' to it anyway. i was more concerned about the mouth so i happy you didnt point at that lol.

yeah i bought the gray clay, will use it on the next sculpt. not sure if i think its better or worse so far but guess it need some get used to. i know there is possibilites to do very groovy stuff in milliput and gs, have to pratisepractisepractise.

im very happy about Truggorre, as i mentioned its a wierd scuplt given a wierd colourscheme. and people seems to have different opinions about the eyes, lol..

@flunk, its another bust i had in mind, same scale. this guy is 7,5cm top to bottom.

I thought i wrote another reply to this thread but my post seems not to be here!!! Anyway I will type it again....

The mouth will be a problem if you do not put some more teeth in the gaps!!! reduce the depth a little if you can as well. When you do a sculpt you need to imagine the silicone being poured over it and then ask yourself if you can get it out okay. Just needs some modifications if you are going to cast it.

Forgot to mention how good that chain is as well mate. Very neat!!

oh noooo not more teeeff....!
i tried to limit the depth actually, maybe a little more then no prob. have no idea how to fix the teeth though, help wanted! i guess its the upper jaw were talking about? i think the lower will work... maybe the best idea is to cut and cast the upper teeth seperately? not like i want the teeth looking like on the 28mm gw orks...

nice you noticed the chain, i went for a short one :D

Really a beautiful work there Skelly. It really looks aggressive and cool. Don't know how you can work with all those painting stuffs. I'm really impatient to see how the painting process turns out.
