im on the verge of tears, was really hoping to see an eldar from you, you can tell he would have turned out really nice even in such an early stage. I wont argue though your current project does look more fun and more in the vein of your other works. The sculpting looks great so far I can see your Ork bust that you made booseted your confidence/skill so it can now be applied to all your other works which will definetly make for more original pieces. What colour do you plan on doing the skin?

Ahh so it was Rat Ogres you were ranting about =P I reckon adding a hump would look pretty cool. Don't quit on that Eldar, keep going with it!

a hump at the back, hmm.... isnt it going to look a bit too much bull-like? havent decided colourscheme yet, but im very eager to start painting the rats, if only my son let me... :D

who knows when im continue painting the eldar, still like the mini very much.

Hey, it's good to see you back. Late congratulations from me as well for your son!

Nice start on the Harlequin. I like the way the checks turned out. Freehand masks not so sure about, but it's hard to say from the quick pics. Know what you mean though about sometimes stuff just not working right, and eldar have never been my thing. I definitely like the rat ogre though. There's a local guy here that's been painting a unit. They are really nice minis to start with, and your additions will make him even better.

Thanks Khavor! :)

yeah, it sucks to paint a mini when you feel that every detail turn out worse than the detail before, better quit and see if the inspiration kick in again later.
i never thought much about the new ogres after seeing the box art, but they sure hell have more potential that shown there!

I wouldn't think a hump would look to bull like on this because with these the back just seems... idk flat.

updates! not much job done as usual, juniors anti-hobby sensor efficiently put a hold to any attempts of longer hobby activity. added a little hump at the ogre as suggested, turnd out very good imo, so nice call there empchild :) ive decided to go with this and pj is in progress.

will u add some more fur?
that area underneath its arm where u put that fur over his belt bothers me thats why im askin

u could add some chain with a piece of wall fitting into ur diorama so it would seem as he is chained in diorama and pulled it out if u use him to play
hope u get my thougths

nope no more fur, as said pj in progess so no more modifications. ive actually only sculpted fur on areas of the ogre that already had fur more or less, i was just not very happy with the original texture.

yep, he will be chained up in the display, ill add that chain later on

Nice display base Skel, I didn't spot the removable gaming base until it was revealed :good:

Is the airbrush a Christmas goodie then? Should be fun. Perhaps we'll see you working on some larger scale pieces in the future?

I don't like the rat ogre mini at all but I'm sure once you've worked your magic on it I'll be sold :D The, metal?, eyepatch on him is looking a little soft. Is it pure GS? Any chance of sanding it to give sharper edges & better definition?

Cheers, B.

not impossible, i do prefer the 54mm scale to anything so then an airbrush will come in handy :) i just need to figure out how to operate such a thing (never held an airbrush in my entire life)

How can you not dig such an abomination??? :)
can say the supposed-to-be-metal eyepatch (yep 100% GS) look more sharp irl than blown up in these pictures, i agree it look a bit soft (to my defense, so is the other metal pieces, haha )

Yeah, but niggling you to sharpen up all of those spikes on the legs & where the tail meets the back of his leg, etc. would come too close to asking you to sculpt a rat ogre from scratch :D

Have fun with the airbrush, sounds to be a fun tool to use once the initial learning curve is dealt with. I've no intention of giving one a go in the near term but do have a carrier bag with all of my Dad's old oil painting kit in it that I may have a play with over the break (ruined tower rather than character minis, at least to begin). Oh if only I didn't have to work, so many exciting hobby things to do & not enough time!

Cheers, B.

THis is much more like it, looking pretty damn awesome now! Base is kick ass, I see you got some of those tiny bricks haha! Odd to be you'd but the grassy hay stuff down before you paint it though, but it'll be interesting to see what you do with it.

Oh, now that is snazzy the way the pipe disconnects to lift the base out. Really nice display base there. I'm also interested to see what you do with the grass when you paint it, having it on so early. Also agree that the hump looks really good. Those Rat Ogres are rather flat models, so that should help. I like the tuft of hair sticking out the top of it, like some sort of giant hump/boil.

thanks folks, yeah TBS i never do anything the easy way, thats why i already glued on the hay :D

paintjob is on the go (actually, ive already painted most of the upper body) and ill post a pic as soon as i have something non-embarassing to show hehe.
