Orcs and Warpaint.

trying to find the right color for warpaint on my Shaman... i'm open to idea also on the style.

I have a few idea, ranging from simple blue part painted (like half a blue face on my Ogres, or very simple wrap around legs and arms) to much more complicated like Myanmar's.

No sure on the highlighting. Guess that I think that paint wouldn't really have a bright/strong highlight/range of color like you painted...

How's an bright orange sound for a warpaint color?

i have a problem when i paint, and it really is a problem ; i can hardly concieve having 2 different "texture" with the same color on a model.

for example, i couldnt paint anything else gray on this mini since stone is already gray.

I'd have that problem with orange, since his ... uhm ... thing hiding his other thing ... is already orange.

well it work on this mini, orks are chaotic enough. but most other minis benefit of a very limited colour palett so you should try working that syndrome a bit ;)

i think the blue tattoo works fine btw

i finished him. Since i failed to find any real proper way to do warpaint, i decided to let him be for now.

I'll start a new Orc this week, a simple Savage Orc. I'll make some attempt on him, and see how it look before committing to this one.

only thing i could think of are the feathers, they seem a bit flat, perhaps a few more shades could do alot? But the skin looks great, and the bones aswell!

Arhugg

Didn't decide on the warpaint yet, but i've painted another Orc. Not too happy about how his skin came out ; he ended up much darker than i wanted, and for some reason the paint ended up really glossy too. But i like how the rest came out, and i think that a complete unit painted to that standard should look really good on the table...

I'll call him... Arhugg.

Buzzrog's skin almost completed. Much closer to what i want to achieve as skintone. Still some details left to do (and obviously the warpaint)

Buzzrog got some more work done on him. I'm facing a decision now... how to paint his belt? look like metal plate, but i dont really want to have any metal on my army... maybe paint it woody like?

Yeah, indeed, like a blue-greyish stone with strong highlights. If the size allows you to add some parallel striping, hey, why not. :D

i think i settled on the type i want. Unsurprising, i decided to go with Australian aboriginal body paint. I have a soft spot for Aboriginal Paint (actually own 2 piece in my house, which i'm very proud of).

here's a few example of what i got in mind (and white is actually a nice idea i think)

The far right on this picture ,especially what he got on his legs

Something like this sound like a good idea also

Good news is that if i decide to go that way, i could also paint my banner in the same way (if you want to know what i mean, google "aboriginal dot paint")

A most excellent idea! the white will contrast nicely and the style will give it an authentic look.

So here's a test i did on Arrhug. That's pretty much what i have in mind ; warpaint arent drawing on the body, but a ritual, so dot painting make sense. It also really fit with my aboriginal influence.

Obviously, its not finished ; only the first half is done (other side will be the same thing), and i think i'll add some other on his legs and forearms.
