TrystanGST's WIP thread

Ugh details. Just keep to a few key colours so it stays cohesive. For the leather you could keep it nice and dark and it would look great or if you went lighter you could shade with a greenish brown just to make it stand out from the fur and cloak (might tie in nicely with the red too). Just keep at it slowly and it will turn out nice. Change gears if you have to cause it would be a shame to just finish this one because you are tired of it.
Well said - I'm trying to break my habit of leaving minis at 80%, but have no fear for this guy. I won't rush him to completion.

I agree with boubi on the skin - popping those a little more will help keep him of getting lost in the robe.

And I'm headed the same direction as Zab. Use color tints - greens to offset the reds and hints of blue to offset the yellow. I don't mean strong colors but mix with your highlight colors for example.

If you have any of the Reaper Clear paints (or similar) this is where they pay off. (I gotta get some decent pics of Ashantyr to show what I mean - I just used some of the clears on her clothing - worked wonderfully.)

Been working on a few things.

With Bones arriving, inventorying and general drooling has slowed my painting somewhat. They provide me with an excellent opportunity though - I'm a horribly slow painter. I can use the Bones to help get faster without sacrificing too much in the way of overall level.

So as often as I can, I am going to reach into my box o' bones, grab a random mini, and try to paint it quickly. I won't slap paint just to be done, but I'm not going to slave over it like I would a display piece.
My first mini from the box was Hellakin Goregutter. Took me just shy of two hours.

Not bad, but awfully slow for the level of paint.

I had also been puttering around with another Bombshell before Bones arrived.

That's pretty solid for 2 hours another 30 min to push the contrast on the cloak, skin and blade and you'll have a really nice mini. Then get back to work on the babe! She' pretty - pretty dangerous, yarrrr!

Another quick mini. About 90 minutes, 10 of which were spent fighting with his eyes.

I got my dad Zombicide for Christmas, and I took advantage of the recent arrival of Bones to give him some more survivors.
Max, er Rex up there is one of them. I also included the 4 Zombie Hunters, although I have yet to paint them.

If his eyes are similar bad cast as the GW ones... I can understand your pain and for 10 minutes it is quite good( i need minimum 15 for one eye and 30 for the next one to look in the same direction^^)
I especialy like the little Gorecutter guy... :) he looks cute and mean the same time!

Just over an hour for Black Dynamite here. I know the Reaper name is Horace "Action" Jackson, but a google image search shows him more BD and less Carl Weathers. Another survivor for Zombicide!

So this is what happens when I start putting a little more effort into this minis - 2.5 hrs and I'm only this far.

Face and hair are done, cloak is done barring freehand, and all that brown will become gold. Haven't picked a color for her gloves yet.

Yeah, but it looks stunning and come on, some minis are just worth the effort when you look at them :)

Oh - for sure. There are definitely a good number of bones that are worth a little more effort. This one is a good example.

Got my bones Tuesday. My quick look during inventory is that about 30% of the Vampire box figures could achieve a nice high quality finish and the rest will just be cool looking gaming pieces. The add ons all apper to be awesome. My favorites so fare are Cthulhu, frost worm, and Nethyrmaul.

And i will be highjacking some of your paint schemes as well ;)

So it's been a few, but I caught something over the last weekend that had me out of sorts until the last day or so. Anyways:

Not awesome, but not bad for 90 minutes work.

The areas were based previosuly with P3 Battlefield brown.

Tonight's work included P3 Battlefield Brown, GW Bestial Brown, GW Bubonic Brown and P3 Marrow White.

Also - I've got to get moving on my entr(y/ies) for GenCon - it's coming up quickly.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I guess i need to paint more to be able to consistently knock out good eyes like you do. Good work on these bones.

Thanks Krule. It was wierd - I was perfectly fine Friday. Then Saturday comes along, and I just feel off. Was supposed to go to a party that evening, but I wasn't feeling up to it. Get my temp taken - 102. No party for me. I stayed in bed pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. I was better on Monday, but while the fever and aches had gone, a cough had appeared. That's still nagging, but other than that I'm back to normal. Work held me up a bit too, but it was mostly being sick and apathetic.

So after finding out that using Isopropyl Alcohol to thin paint and letting the airbrush aerosolize it might be a bad idea (for your health - it works great otherwise), I relented and got some Airbrush Medium. Got the rest of the green base down. Man I hate that old GW paint. So glad to be done with that particular color.
