I like them as far as massive slabs of armourclad minis goes! Just the plate over the crotch that looks awkward. Reminds me a bit of when I played Unreal Tournament with the fatboy mod.

They're not fat. They're just big boned.

I'm really not a fan of these, they just don't fit into the fluff and seem like just an excuse to create "something new" for the new codex. Apparently it's a suit that a marine climbs into wearing their armour - hence the tiny head.

I did see them painted in a different scheme the other day (though can't find the link) and they actually looked quite good - these on the other hand are just "meh".

All these statements are true, but I can only think of one thing....the GW mantra. . .

POWER CREEP!!!

Bigger equals more powerful, so they continually have to makes something that beats previous incarnations of any given Army (AKA HOW DO WE, AS GW, FORCE OLDER PLAYERS TO BUY NEW MODELS TO ENSURE COMPETITIVENESS).

Once again, the bottomline got in the way of the creative thinking over at GW.

. . . My army is so old. . . the Chapter Master has a mastercrafted rock as his primary weapon. . .

. . .in other words, I won't be in any GW tournies anytime soon.

to be completely honest power creep exists in all other games too, no exceptions.

but as usual it backfires :D , Not only I didn't buy any, but I'm thinking more and more about freeing up space and selling my 40k armies.
At least I'd have some free space for the 8000pt Wolfen and 9000pt confrontation-griffin army (not to mention the 5700pt Cynwall one) :D

I hear ya. I'm gonna be ditching my necrons, dark eldar (never my Dark angels though, 1st love and all that) and a several tables worth of terrain soon. More painting - less gaming & more cool minis - less GW. I still ike them but my tastes and intrests are maturing and GW seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

Always a disappointment to see such releases and there have been a few of late. It was 80's/90's GW stuff that introduced me to this hobby so (although I no longer buy them) Space Marines always hold a special place in my heart! My problem with these figures is that they look two dimensional. There's nothing dynamic about them whatsoever and despite how much GW have "upped their game" over the years these are quite quite uninspiring.

This right here...exactly...I have always said they do their models really well...even craptastic ones like this are well developed and have great details. If they were still, at their core, a miniatures company, they would still be highly polished. However, they have become a business that sells minis which puts the craft (something they focused on in the past) behind sales (clearly, recent focus) as important, so make money first then make good models in flushing them.

Personally, They lost me when they gave the Grey Knight Termies a newer cartoony look and gave them a cradle baby robot. Those (old metal) termies are some of my all time miniatures, period. But they seem to have been the start of turning the 'grim' future into the 'grin' future (Sorry, couldn't resist).

OK, true, but I always point to Privateer Press in this way. Yes, they continue to add bigger (better?) options that change the game, but everything is on a level playing field (ok, ok...in theory). However, back in Legends, they made some broken rules...Stupid broken rules...But they knew it, addressed it, and rereleased rules for every model in MK2. Every model was looked at, and adjusted, both up AND down, to minimize the power creep. They have also stated they intend to keep every model tournament legal, and viable. This is the primary difference, as these guys, knockout many other options as viable, and playing Old GW minis all but guarantees a midlevel score in tournies at best (NOTE: I haven't been a tournie player in quite sometime and this quote is based on the old 'army composition' score which was lower if too many old models were used. On that basis I could be wrong, just another day...)
